Looks like it's going to be a dwarves & goblins box this time around in the boxed game. Kinda want the dwarves, but I'd be happy to sell the goblins or both to anyone. I just want the book but it's cheaper for me this way, plus all the models...it holds over 100 in the box, it says so on it!

yeah, but they are probably going to box it like battle for Macragge, where you only get an abridged rulebook.

so when is the new rulebook coming out? they are going to fuck things up i know it. here's some ideas:
-flyers can't fly over terrain
-each unit has defense points that can be allocated b4 the game, so u can make a regular swordsman have 150 defense (godly) which will never die.
-each hit rolls on damage chart to determine # of def points taken away from unit.
-defense points are # of points for army (units dont cost points anymore).
-you can't march anymore (new army books for new movement rules)
-bs is determined by the number of wounds + initiative - ws *3
-summoning a chaos lord is cast on a 3+ and cannot be miscast for every army that has an evil or semi-evil looking soldier in it.
-chaos lord can shoot 3d6 str 8 homing missiles and 4d6 explosion (count it as a multiple explosive cannon barrage-new rule)
-warp can be created for any army to get their future equivalent (40k) in play only after they have caused a fleeing unit to flee off the board from shooting. only one unit at a time can be chosen from the future but they are at -1 to defense points.
-a new phase is issued after the psychology phase: taunting. roll a d6 on a unit using the taunting chart targeting another unit 2d6 * unit strength / leadership inches and that will determine what yo momma joke will be used to create a number of different scenarios such as the unit charging the taunting unit or feeling bad that they could not come up with a better joke giving them a morale check at -1.

You put way too much thought into that Matt...lol.
That would suck if they had it much like BoM. So far as I've heard they are doing an entirely new book, not just tweaking things, so who knows really. Wait and see...perhaps Matt will be right and they'll screw it up like with the new giant models...

Here are some rumors I saw on another website about it...personally I think that if it is to messed up we should just continue to play 6th edition.
This was stolen from oger strong hold
1.) Judging by all previous years the release will be autumn/winter '06.
2.) Cavalry and chariots must charge their minimum move distance to be able to claim any bonuses (eg. lances, spears and impact hits) like the Ogre Bull charge, or may be a straight 6".
3.) Fast Cavalry do not negate rank bonuses.
4.) Skirmishers fear ranked infantry.
5.) Magic users can only use the dice they generate for their own spells. the 2 army standard dice can be used by any wizard.
6.) The maximum amount of dice used by a wizard has increased by 1. ie. a level 2 can use up to four to cast a spell.
7.) The 'Parry' bonus for a shield and hand weapon can only be claimed by models with a ws of 4 or more.
8.) The unit that has the widest frontage in a close combat engagement may claim a +1 to their combat resolution.
9.) The lores will also be carefully reviewed and probably revised.
10.) Terrible misscast table (if you roll a double 1 on the new misscast table it will be "bye bye for you mage") .
11.) Halberds to become armour piercing
12.) Auto hit weapons only hit skirmishers on a roll of 4+ (per shot)
14.) I've heard that the rules regarding "panic" will be steamlined, so that it won't be such hastle to remember whether you need to be 4" away if your mates are dead, or 6" away i they're runing away.
15.) Spears will act like Brettonian defensive stakes and remove any charge bonus.
Don't ask what happened to 13 i don't know.

I actually like all of that, and it makes a lot of sense too. If that's all they're doing, I'm really happy with it!

I just got an experimental copy of the 7th Edition rules GW is playtesting! 7th edition warhammer is played as such-
"Both players roll a D6 and add the total dollar value of their Army. The highest total wins.
If you are playing Chaos, double your score."
It's a little more complicated than 40K, but GW's research department says they expect big numbers. They are targeting the 2nd Trimester through Kindergarden crowd, so new models will be non-toxic, edible, and devoid of pointy bits.

We have contents people! Dwarves: Warriors, Miners, Quarrellers (crossbows), cannon, slayer, lord, wound markers, fortifications, and what could pass for a dwarven beer cart with guns. Goblins: Spearmen, spearmen, archers, spider riders, some kinda totem with captured slayer, mage (probably looks like two), a new troll, and lotsa wound markers. This box looks good. I'm really tempted to get it. Eventually. And sell of some stuff.

oh u guys....falling into the trap gw has set from day 1 by trusting that these new rules will make the game sooooo much better, and then packing the rules with a total of $2 in miniatures, but pricing them over $100. idk very skeptical about these new rules and i will have to look at the book and make my own judgments. adam brings up a good point on the whole "We are big bad douche bags that just want to make money and completely fuck up any instance of fun" montage that GW sets. If only I got into this game when it was cheap and more fun instead of the monopoly giant (new figure for ogre kingdoms coming spring 2008) it has become.

A friend of mine is working on retooling the rules by taking all of the good stuff from 1st edition on, then picking and choosing what to use and what to drop. So far it is pretty cool, as it is more realistic than the current system, and includes things such as character/unit creation, and special weapons formations available to all armies (i.e. Pikemen, Brettonian cavalry don't have a patent on the wedge formation). The problem is it is taking forever, and you would have to have a dedicated group of guys to use the rules. Just another option for people like Matt and myself who are getting increasingly intolerant of the GW capatalist pig dogs.
And fuck that new down syndrom looking Giant in it's overly expensive ass.
Other companies use plastic injection molding all the time (see the dollar store), so GW can stop acting like they needs the Pope's semen extract to make plastic fucking toys. Yes, the new boxed set is probably worth about two dollars American.

They use pope semen, no wonder it is so expensive!!! I say we just continue to use 6th edition as I dont see to many flaws with it and the flaws that there are we have basically made house rules for so....why not just stick to what we know.
