So's, I'm looking through codices, and finding arguements online and such, and now here we are. There are unit upgrades and the like, such as heavy weapons. It's all about the wording, so check your codex, whatever you play, to find out how it is. But this is how I will interpret it until told otherwise, so long as we all agree:
"may replace x weapon with new x weapon at +15pts" - I think this means exactly what it says. Drop the old weapon, add the new.
"may be armed with x weapon at +15pts" - This is in addition to its current weapons. Thus, like it says in IG, SM, and others, Heavy Weapon & Special Weapon troopers keep their bolters and also carry the additional weapon. Obviously can't fire both at the same time; only cyclone terminators can because the rules say so.
Thoughts?

it also says you can only carry one two handed weapon and one one handed weapon, or two one handed weapons somewere, don't have my rulebook on me. I think it's more in the vain of characters' weapons, but i still think it would apply.

Heh. Well Dark Angels blew that out of the water. They can have a bolt pistol, storm bolter, and close combat weapon, so who knows on that one. Plus, normal Chaplains and Librarians already come with a weapon. They are then allowed to pick two more, with only one being a two handed weapon. In the main rulebook it doesn't denounce this at all, nor in the codex.
I've also been looking for the rule in the BBB that says all models are assumed to have a close combat weapon, but it's gone now, thankfully. Otherwise think about it. The Dark Angels tactical marines get a bolter and bolt pistol, and are assumed to have a ccw. Yikes they would've gotten an extra attack. Good thing it wasn't an oversight.

In friendly play...I wouldnt care. In tournaments though models are supposed to represent "what ya see is what ya get" So you would have to model your guys to have both I would think and then i still think u might have some bitching and rule squabbles to deal with.

Yea probably. It usually wouldn't come up because a heavy or special weapon is usually better than a bolter anyway. The only time is when the squad moves, I'd get one more bolter to shoot with, since the heavy can't.
I allow everything in friendly play. Special characters, fw, crazy WD rules, you name it. Those games are always more fun.

I think that heavy weapons always replace the normal weapon... think about it, you're lugging around a heavy bolter and a squad of Eldar pops up out of a bush. By the time you've dropped your heavy bolter, prayed that the machine spirit wasn't offended by rough handling, grabbed your bolter and pointed it at the enemy, either a) you've been shot, b) your squad mates who have only their bolters have blown the enemy to shreds, or c) someone's stabbing you in close combat. just my two cents.
