After a couple of discussions with fellow Warmachine/Hordes players, I thought I would bring up the issue to Tornament Standards. It is not that anyone has done anything to warrant suspicion, but there are a couple of measures we could take to ensure fair tournaments.
As mentioned in the Steamroller rules, and by John, everyone is supposed to have two army lists when they enter the torunament. We have not really been enforcing this. Not only does this make tracking damage easier, but it keeps everyone honest about lists and such. Though we haven't had any problems with this, it would just be a good measure to ensure fairness- make sure no one is catering their lists to specific opponents, and that point values are accurate. This is especially the case when we start getting players who we do not know and are not a part of our regular gaming circles.
Additionally, everyone should make sure that they bring all of the necessary materials with them on game day. That means templates, tokens, dice, pencils, etc. By the official Steamroller rules, you can be gigged points for not being sufficiently prepared. While I don't propose we start penalizing people who do not bring everything with, it is just good form to be ready to roll.
Once again, none of this is meant to be directed at anyone in specific, nor has anyone done anything to raise suspicion. These are just some general rules we should really start following more closely. "Official" events like tournaments should be as professional as possible, so I think we would all benefit from following these guidelines.
If you don't already have it, download "Armies of Immoren" to print out your lists. It is a superb program, and super easy to use. armies-immoren.dyndns.org/warmachine/ArmiesofImmoren/index.html
That being said, John has been doing a stellar job with his tournaments, and any assistance we can give him will help show how appreciative we are. Make sure you spread the word about the next tournament (I believe it is the last Saturday in March).
