OBG 40K 750 pt tourney

It's that time of year again, time to figure out who's going in first?! On Board Games in Dekalb will be hosting a 750 pt 40K tourney on January 5th! Come out and sport the spearhead of your new army, or gather up those elite forces of your current army and play in our 4-round event!

This event went off fantastically last year and I'm sure it'll have the same responce this year! Plus, since it went so well I'm upping the ante! First place this year gets the new ORC SPEARHEAD. 'oooo---ahhhh'! Come out and have a great time!

"Who's Going First" Tournament-

Place: On Board Games
Date: January 5th, 2008
Time: 11:00am-5:00'ish
Points: 750pts
Rounds: 4
Cost: $10/$30 ($10 entrance or $30 purchase day-of)

Max Players: 26

Prizes:
1st- ORK SPEARHEAD BOX + CODEX
2nd- Platoon transport case from sable designs + foam
3rd- $15 Store credit (boring, I know)

Tank Hunter- Vehicle Damage Dice
Death or Glory- GF9 Blast Markers

Standard FOC will be used
Standard 4 ed. rules will be used
Forgeworld peices ARE Allowed*
WYSIWYG please!!
Unpainted models are fine, must be assembled
Please proxy responcibly**

TIMETABLE:
10:00am - store open for check-in and registration
11:00am - FIRST MATCH STARTS
12:10pm - Second Match Start
1:20pm - Break for food
2:00om - Third Match Start
3:40pm - Forth Match Start
5:00pm - Awards and a hearty pat on the back

ODD AWARDS:
Tank Hunter Winner: The person that destroys the most vehicles during the event is awarded the 'tank-hunter' award.
Death or Glory Winner: (my favorite) the person who runs over the most foolish hero's OR the person who Glories the most tanks.

*Forworld peices are allowed as long as you have full rules for them on-site. Any peice you cannot provide rules for will be removed from the game. No Fliers, sorry! They give me a head-ache. Superheavies and gargantuan creatures count as two heavy choices for FOC. Please ask me if you have an odd question about models. NOTE: Large forge-peices did not do well last year. While fun to play, they don't do well in small missions.

**Proxies will be allowed for things like HQ choices and Seargents of squads, meaning if you have a really cool model that you made and it's not all GW, I don't mind, however I will not allow 10 gaunts to represent 10 space marines. Please PM me proxy requests so we have no SNAFU's day-of.

VICTORY CONDITION UPDATE:

Overall Tourney Winner will be deturmined by total victory points as outlined here:

Winning - 3 points
Draw - 1 point
Losing - 0 points


MISSIONS UPDATE:

"Lets start with some beat downs"
Round 1 Mission: Seek and Destory
--Victory Condition - Annihilation
--Same as standard S&D mission in the 4ed. book.
--Draw is 0-100 pts difference
--Mission level is Gamma

"We must know what they know without them knowing we know what they know"
Round 2 Mission: Recon
--Victory Condition - Field of Battle
--Same as standard Recon in the 4th. book.
--Draw is same number of scoring units
--Mission level is Alpha

"Did I mention this was going to be hard?"
Round 3 Mission: The Gauntlet
--Victory Condition - Field of Battle
--Playing Field is 4' x 2' (long north/south)
--6" down the center of the field from opponant to opponant must be clear of terrain.
--terrain is placed as normal except for it can be closer than 6" to the new 'table edge'.
--Objective: Get your HQ choice to to a point 6" from your opponant's base-line.
--If either HQ reaches their objective the game ends.
--Mission winner receives 6 VP's.
--Draw is neither HQ is alive or neither reaches the objective.
--Mission level is Gamma HOWEVER no unit may pick a point farther than 30" from their table edge to deep strike to.
--Game length is variable after 6 turns upto 9 turns.

Round 4 Mission: Seek and Destroy

--Draw is 0-200 pts difference (note the difference here)
--Mission level is Gamma

FAQ on mission 3:
*HQ (and/or retinue) must be in base contact with objective point at the end of that player's assault phase.
*HQ, like in the sabotage mission, may assault the objective, however does not count as being locked in CC if he chooses this option.

Sure I would be interested in participating in the Tournament. I'm Tom Dady and actually got a question: Would it be acceptable to use standard Gaunts (from the Tyranids) equipped with fleshborers that have been custom modified to have basically a biological jetpack on their backs (made from the spinefist and devourer models) to count as Gargoyles? The official models are just too terrible and expensive so if this isn't acceptable I just wont use Gargoyles.

Just remember to measure your distances absolutely correctly! Put your tape measure on the table instead of holding it above. Etc. I don't want to have to be asked to watch it again.

Yeah I remember that's why I dug up a 6 inch protractor ^_^. What army do you think you'll use? I've never really played a game this small, but figure I'll go with my Nids' because the prospect of another tournament = motivation to finish painting them... and I love my Hive Tyrant. Btw Andrew would you be interested in having a friendly game b4 the tournament to test out our lists?

Ah, would it be that I could, but I can't so I shan't. I'll only be in town that day, so it'd be hard to get in a game beforehand. Maybe early, on the icy ground, perhaps?

lol, maybe McDonalds or Burger King will shelter two commanders of plastic soldiers for an hour or something otherwise the ground is cold.... though the image of a slip and sliding CC Carnifex is interesting. I guess at the least i'd just like some opinion on my list:

Yeah, as long as there is something specifically different about the gaunts that you can say they're 'gargoyles' that's fine. Plus since you won't be fielding any other guants there shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks OBG; Assuming you respond to this before January 5th, does the $10/30 entry fee mean that If I sign up the day of the 40K tournament I have to pay $30 or only $10 if I sign up in advance because otherwise I'm not understanding the price difference.

no it means either pay $10 for the tournament or you can buy something worth $30 as an entree fee instead of paying the $10

I wasn't actually paying attention to the winners but at least 1st and 2nd (i think) went to players outside of the NIU club?

after that I'm not too sure what the final standings were. The Dan that took second also one the Tank Hunter award by one vehicle (I couldn't kill that Master of the Ravenwing my last game), and no one won the Death or Glory award.
