Been looking at about half a dozen things recently when it comes to mini's and now that I have NOTHING to do I've gotten around to building a half dozen or so lists too, and so here's a theoretical Ogre Army build for Warhammer Fantasy:
Heroes: 540 points Butcher + Upgrades Butcher + Upgrades Bruiser + Upgrades
Core Units: 1780 9 Ogre Bulls + Upgrades 9 Ogre Bulls + Upgrades 6 Iron Guts + Upgrades 6 Iron Guts + Upgrades 36 Knoblars 36 Knoblars
Special Units: 680 6 Lead Belchers + Upgrade (not plural) 6 Lead Belchers + Upgrade (not plural)
Total: 3000 points exactly
I'm not giving the unit upgrades cause frankly there ain't that many and I'm not in the mood to write em' all down, plus most of em' are no-brainers. Do you think this list is at least decent? Is it probably worth shelling out $310 for? It does bother the hell out of me that I'm essentially paying for 40K terminators here as far as price goes, but to make an interesting list outa most of the other Warhammer Armies seems like it would cost a lot more at the 3K point level. (3 battalion boxes + 1 box of Iron Guts to convert into the heroes... I'm dirty cheap ;D)

Well Bill plays ogre kingdoms you should ask him, he doesn't frequent the forums all that much, I bet he could help you out with a list or two.

Ah thanks for the advice, sadly I'd be limited to this list for the forseeable future because this is the cheapest $ list for 3K points I could find.

Or you could go the not instant gratification route and plan out your spending on an army you really want.
Man I just wish I money to spend on this shit like some of you guys have. That and the time to do things with them.
Pretty sound list thought...as I have no clue about anything in fantasy yet.

Neither do I Delso, that's why I've had to cut that list down to 2,300 because it saves me about $70 and gets me the 3 Man Eater models I want for my Generals. The neat thing about these models is that I'm not terribly fond of the Bulls on paper (the models are sweet, which is more important) so I'm just going to convert a few into Gorgers. There really aren't that many unit options I can't convernt from the Bull Ogre model and oddly the batallion box set offers a well rounded list at a significant price reduction ;D. If I really wanted to dive head first and sink my money into this I could go all the way, but it would more than double the cost... and I still want some money for a 500 point Hordes or Warmachine list. Besides I'd rather my Army look good than stomp everyone I play (Ogres aren't that competitive to begin with anyway) because I get more satisfaction out of painting/modeling/converting then I do winning. If I wanted to play simply for the sake of winning, well they're cheaper hobbies.

You're right on the mark , but actually only Butchers can't be generals cause they have no armor I guess. However, if I was too ambiguous I'm going to use the Man Eater "models" to count as for my butchers and bruiser. They look better than the Butcher/Tyrant models GW offers and they're $15 less. To me it's a no-brainer for value/asthetics and I won't have any Man Eater units in my army anyways so all should be good ^_^.
