Welcome back to Planet Arkon, a small peice of rock in the middle of nowhere: Mordant Zone. This planet was subject to a Tyranid invasion during Hive Fleet Behemouth's spearhead into the Galaxy and was totally razed. Now hovever, since the fleet has been beaten back, and thanks to Imperial thuroughness, this planet has been rediscovered cataloged.
Invasion! Several armies have set up base on the surface of Arkon and dug in, creating small but growing cities. There is something in the planet, something powerful, that has drawn the fight to the Mordant Zone. Now greenskins, Orks, the green tide have rolled into the planet and are threatening one of the largest of the Space Marine outpost bases. Commanders on both sides are scrambling to gather enough forces to ensure their survival. *********************************

yippe for everything but killpoints . can we use models from two different armies as part of one army, or do we have to stick with 1 army type per player?

If you read the apocalypse rules you would understand that lol.
In apocalypse if you have a legit reason for armies to align, then they can! So...in your case I would say no lol Tyranids and Tau don't like one another...infact Nids don't like anyone lol.
I am assuming this tournament is meant to show off our new box set armies correct?

John usually prefers that players stick to one army/race per player. Have to ask to be sure since it's his dealy. With the pulsa rokkit and the addition of two sets worth of orks (after trading with Delso), I'll definately be able to bring 2000 points of waaaagh. On a side note too, I managed to check out an Apocalypse: Reload Book at a GW shop yesterday. They added new race specific strategems and of course some new formations as well as a few superheavies. At any rate though, this should make for another glorious pocy'clypse' battle!!

Did they add any proxy-able Tau super heavies? I'd be curious to know what the new formations are to see if anything i own could count for it; i hold out hope because I own 7 crisis suits and that's not even enough for the whole 'advanced recon' thing on the original book...

Na, no super-heavies. What's the fascination anyway?
But you got more formations, and you might be able to do some.
Farstrike Battlesuit formation: 2-4 crisis teams, 0-2 broadside teams Fire Warrior Counter-Strike: 2-4 Fire Warrior teams in Devilfish transports, 1 is a command tank Skysweep Missile Defence Wing: 2-4 Sky Ray tanks, 1 Devilfish Firestream Piranha Wing: 1 Piranha command, 3+ Piranhas, 0-1 Tetra Scout Speeder Nighthunter Stealth Group:3-5 stealth teams, 1 is command team
I got my Apoc: Reload book a couple weeks ago. It is the bomb diggity. Chaos Space Marines can take a shit on an objective, making nobody want it (or even able to capture it). It's that awesome.

One of the ork stratagems actually turns an opponent super heavy into an objective that they can score, I love it. It's like Supa lootas or something crazy!

huzzah! strategems i can actually use ^_^. the fascination with super heavies has to do with the fact that the Tau have the coolest super heavies in the game offering unique tactical possibilities to an otherwise relatively linear gameplay and i can't use them do to the consensus i can't proxy (i'm referring to things like the orca drop shop, the giant manta ray of doom is unrealistic to proxy with a toy space ship or something).

Carve a foam block and stick four engines on it. Voila, an Orca. If you can approximate and get it close, it's fine. shoebox = Orca is not fine.
Yea, the new assets rock for everyone.

forgive my ignorance (This idea has actually occured to me) but where exactly can i acquire relatively large blocks of foam? is it pratical to even paint something like that given it's foam and not a totally flat surface?

Any hardware store can provide you with foam for making almost anything you need to make.
Lowes, Menards, Home Depot they all have what you are looking for.

it may need to be done in layers though, most foam is thin

True but you can get 2" thick sheets which would make it easier.

or harder depending on the situation.

Well for making an ORCA I would think it would make it easier as he needs a bigger block. You could go with many small layers which would be easier to cut.

I just gotta say. Damn. That was a fun-ass apocalypse game. 34000 points total was I believe the final tally. Ridiculous at times, but oh so much fun.
