Thanks for putting on a great event, sir! Scenarioes were fun and balanced, opponents were top notch; I even got a raffle prize to boot! I can't wait to go back, that store has tons upon tons of little things one can rifle through for long enough. Curse my itching for new projects!
Where were you going to posts pics and results? I couldn't find anywhere else in a brief search. I just want to see how many battle points stubby beat me by with his knightly massacres, heh.

Andrew - Thanks for coming!
It was awesome to finally get to meet you. Love the army and look forward to playing it sometime.
I will do a complete posting here this evening. I am in the process of getting the pictures uploaded and the results formatted (I wish I could just paste from Excel).
More to come soon!

[glow=red,2,300]Winner of the Chaos Battlion was NIMGC's own Andrew K.[/glow]

I played Brad's Halloween flavored Wood Elves in the 1st round for a minor win (unlucky dice for him, general was chased down and killed by a free spirit host), Robert's Chaos Dwarves in the 2nd round for a massacre (unlucky dice for him again, failed a terror check on Ld 10), and Jeff's Lizardmen in round 3 for a minor win (all maneuvering game, he made two mistakes that cost him some skinks and cold ones). I liked Brad's army the most, but that's just because hot chicky models are awesome. And the great pumpkin giving me the finger.

Reflections I want to start by saying thank you to every participant that braved the snow and road conditions to attend the first Invasion. The weather conditions were difficult and caused a number of last minute drops, but in the end, ten folks braved it and made for what I would call a solid event.
With regards to tournaments I have run, this one had a couple firsts that I was very excited about. The important one for me was that I really got a sense that everyone walked away happy. I make this statement not implying that the event was perfect, there are areas that can be improved. I mean that I really saw all smiling faces and just left that evening feeling like everyone had fun.
The second thing that happened was everyone had a painted army. Every model on the board was painted and it was such a pleasure taking pictures and marveling at the work of each participant.
Like I said above, there are things that I could have done better. I think the scenarios were not to everyone’s liking and I will look to make some changes in that department. I would also like to improve the freebies and such with regards to them being a little more memorable or linked to the event. I saw a line of sight tool from another tournament that someone was using that I thought was an awesome idea.
Looking Ahead As I look ahead to next year, I have a sense of what I expect for Invasion 2010. The general format will be the same: 1000 points, 3 games, relaxed schedule, the same general scoring format, and loads of prizes. I plan on taking a lot of the advice about the scenarios and making a few changes, though I expect to keep the general structure (i.e. primary and secondary goals with modifiers). Another thing that I will need to do is raise the entry fee to $15.00 per player. I hate doing this, but you have my word that I will not raise it for the next few years (assuming people are still coming!).
I have already made arrangements with Rockheads, so I can informally announce that Invasion 2010 will be returning to Rockheads on Jan 9th 2010. Since a lot can happen in a year, I will make the official announcement in July. Why so early you may ask? The reason is I plan on doing some things that lead up to it. One thing will be a few online painting competitions that are open only to folks that have pre-registered. I may also do a primer, just to test new scenarios.
After all this, what I want most is to hear from you, the folks that came to Invasion. What would you like to see next year? What can be done better? What must stay the same in order for you to want to come back? Your feedback is the most important to me, for without you, the Invasion is simply a guy sitting in a corner.
Thanks everyone and see you next year!
John

Aww, I scored lowest in sports? I must've been doing something very, very wrong as I try to be very fun-loving towards games...I'll tack that to "haven't played since April," "I'm the new guy in the area," and "unprofessional army appearance," and stick to that story. I understand my low painting, as it was all kinda thrown together at the end there. I don't have my missions with me now as I'm at school, but I'll go with suggestions from what I remember.
I think the first scenario was the most trouble. Two objectives, one on each table edge is hard to do in 1000 points of Fantasy, except if the table is only 4' wide; I'm not sure if others were playing 4' but Brad and I didn't. It ended up being that I feignted left and went right, while he was split between objectives, totally not even using the second unit of dryads, allowing me to kind of steamroller my way to the other objective with my general and 40 spearetons. Otherwise I liked it.
The second mission was interesting with the line bit. I thought it was fine, but 10 battle points may have been a bit steep for achieving that; unlike the first mission, this one was much easier to do in small point games...at least for Vampire Counts. My spearetons were out of the whole game, anchoring one end of the line while my skeletons, vampires, and wraiths did all the killing and winning, extending my line. Different, but likable.
The third mission was just kinda bog standard, which is good. Everyone needs killing. But when Jeff didn't roll a good spell, all he threw at me were 1 unit of cold ones, the salamanders (once) and the chameleon skinks, resulting in 2 units of skinks and 1 of cold ones being all but wasted. As it was, I had no chance getting the secondary objective of the enemy deployment zone, at least playing defensively as well. In any case, it was fine.
I dunno, I had a good time. Prizes aplenty, new faces to smash (in game of course), high-quality tournament packets. Might I suggest a not-so-wintry time?

Andrew - I wouldn't get to worked up about your sportsmanship score. Most of the guys playing came in groups of three, so you are not wrong for feeling like the odd man out. I would not be shocked if next year you are at the top of the list.
With regards to the scenarios, looking back, I agree that a single goal in a scenario should not be worth 1/2 the rounds points. I'll keep that in mind with the next one.

Some army stats I guess:
- 50% of armies were Chaos of some fashion - 20% Dwarfs - 10% each of Wood Elves, Lizardmen, and Vampire Counts - No show for Empire, Bretonnia, High Elves, Dark Elves, Ogres, DoW, Orcs & Goblins, and Tomb Kings
Maybe a good theme would be "No doubles!" No two players may bring the same army unless all are already taken, but since there are 13 it'll be okay maybe? And no taking two of the same unit from your army book? Like I can't have two units of Knights of the Realm for my Bretonnians (which I'd be claiming for next year if the No Doubles comes to pass). Adds some variety I think...

Good Morning:
To build on the stats that Andrew posted:
2 Chaos Dwarves 3 Warriors of Chaos 1 Daemons of Chaos 1 Southlands Lizardmen 1 Dwarves 1 Vampire Counts 1 Wood Elves
Of the folks that were registered but did not attend due to weather conditions and/or personal matters, the armies being played would have been.
1 Orcs & Goblins 1 Dark Elves 1 Empire 2 Dwarves 1 Vampire Counts
If everyone that had registered had been able to make it, the pool of armies would have been more diverse. I would expect for next year that the number of Lizardmen, Skaven, and BoC armies would also increase with the release of new books. I was surprised to have two chaos dwarf players. As for the number of WoC players, it didn’t surprise me since they are the newest books.
One of the nice things about the IK format is that it allows folks to experiment with different armies as the model investiment is much smaller. (It is quite possible for some armies to field as few as 13 models.)
As for your suggestions about a "No Doubles" theme, I like them and will add them to my growing list of ideas for next year. Can't promise anything at this moment, but I will definetly consider them.

We just assumed that was the size, same with game 2. It was only game 3 with Jeff that we actually considered otherwise.

We just assumed that was the size, same with game 2. It was only game 3 with Jeff that we actually considered otherwise. That is something I am going to need to address next year. The original rules and the packet both stated the default was 4'x4'. Players were allowed to change, if they agreed, but the default wins if players cannot agree. Another thing for the list of stuff to consider for next year, thanks andrew!
