In the Tau Empire Codex under the drones section it says "If the character with the drone controller is killed then all his drones are removed at the end of the shooting or assault phase in which he died."

our rules posting says "- Shield drones can survive when the suit they're protecting dies, due to the new Wound Allocation Rules."

Did something about shield drones change when the new wound allocation rules came do be?

It simply means that shield drones don't always die first, like before. A suit may die before the drones do. Obviously the drones are removed as well. My bad. Fixed.
