If you want to BETA test some house rules/errata with the Tau Tactica Tau codex that I would like to BETA test then I'm all for it sometime.
GW's release schedule I've noticed has been getting better as time goes on. It was kind of empty until recently when they've churned out in 40K Orks, Chaos Space Marines, Space Marines, Demons (a purely money making grab I felt) and the up coming Imperial Guard. Demon Hunters themselves might be over priced, but they're still very good and a competitive list wielded by a skilled player should win more often than not. A competitive list would probably be pricey $ though.
I seemed to have made a woeful choice in my preferred armies in retrospect as far as their priority in being updated goes. Both Tau and Tyranids are true 4th edition codices that won't be getting any useful Faqs or revisions or models for 3-4 years. It hurts Tau the most because they're a average, sometimes mediocre shooting army that was balanced by their nifty tricks they could pull off using 4th edition's skimmer and Target Priority rules. Now that they're gone, they're a average to mediocre shooting army.
Tyranids have a lot of Troop chocies, but they can no longer play a swarm competitively due to the new Ork codex. Their Monstrous Creatures are considerably over priced when compared to all of their Demon counter parts running around that are more killy and cheaper. The Troops they do have are made in such a way that they're not designed to hold objectives and about half the units, like in the Tau Empire codex, are just broken in a bad way to the point of uselessness like : Lictors, Raveners, the swarmy bug bases, Biovores, Gargoyles, Hormagaunts cause to make them useful you could have a Genestealer instead, the former anti-tank gun called the Venom Canon, etc...
With the Tau their units are: Vespid, Kroot (new combat resolution rules = they cannot even speed bump), Ethereals, Special Characters, Gun Drones (free ones or otherwise), Sniper Drone Teams (better value than a Lictor at least), half the wargear/upgrades, no decent scoring units capable of holding an objective, Skyrays, etc... (Piranhas are 50/50 due to being 2KP each).
Demon Hunters and Witch Hunters, which should just be lumped into a Inquisitor codex or something, have competent, touch and resilient scoring units that are able to hold objectives with a lot of fire power potential to dish back. They also have unique special rules and abilities that give them character and set them apart in gameplay that don't really change through the editions all that much. They deserve a new codex, but they're not that bad off as the two armies I mentioned. Space Wolves are pretty darn good too in 5th and they're 2nd edition? DE are still very competitive when fielded by a skilled player.
In other words, Tau and Tyranids got hit harder than most people like think because: Orks do the swarm better and Demons do the Monstrous Creatures better. Tau got hit hard due to having no decent unit to hold an objective with only 1 real scoring unit and very over priced transports, Tau Fire Warriors, with Eldar and other armies holding the upper hand in ranged combat.
IG is at least getting a much needed update which I look forward to, but even now when fielded by a skilled player they should perform well given the abundance of cheap scoring units, relatively cheap and good tanks like the fantastically under rated Hellhound. They even get CC units like Cavalry. The only reason they're not fielded I think is because, despite the really cheap point cost, their models are TERRIBLE and over priced $ to boot.
Anyways there's my rant ^_^.
