Evening:
I am sitting in class, so I thought I would start a discussion.
I am planning on playing a Chaos Daemons army at the Adepticon Combat Patrol tournament and was curious what people would consider to be an optimized list for this format.
If you have seen my painting blog, you will notice I am planning a pure slaanesh force. I will likely stick with something in that vein, but am curious on what the forum thinks.

I dunno where your painting blog is, though I don't stress myself to go looking for such things.
Slaaneshi are unfortunately the weakest of the daemonic lot, so far as 40k goes. But for 400 points (right, it's still 400?) you might want to go with:
Daemonettes (for numbers) Fiends/Masque/heralds (for punchy units)
I personally would go with horrors and plaguebearers, with some flamers thrown in if I could spare them. Horrors shoot well, while the plaguebearers can hold objectives...though I'm not sure if there are any in CP, I doubt there are. So probably bloodletters in their place.

I don't know squat about Chaos, but I can say that I have heard that plaguebearers are good.
I thought your stuff is nurgle (says the guy who doesn't know chaos)?

The Masque is not allowed, otherwise I would have included her.
The list I am playing with at the moment: 1 Herald of Slaanesh w/ Daemonic Gaze (65 pts) 5 Daemonettes (65 pts) 5 Daemonettes (65 pts) 5 Daemonettes (65 pts) 1 Fiend of Slaanesh w/ unholy might (40 pts) 1 Fiend of Slaanesh w/ unholy might (40 pts) 2 Fiend of Slaanesh (60 pts)
This list is fast and is all rending (which is not as good anymore). I plan on doing my deep strikes far from the opponent’s forces and moving quickly to close the gap. The extra strength on two of the fiends should mean that I can deal with any vehicles that are fielded, though I don’t expect to see many.
Below is how I would divide the army for deep striking purposes. I like the idea of the fiends and herald being the relief force but still able to pack a punch if the dice decide to field group B first. Group A 5 Daemonettes (65 pts) 5 Daemonettes (65 pts) 2 Fiend of Slaanesh (60 pts)
Group B 1 Herald of Slaanesh w/ Daemonic Gaze w/5 Daemonettes 1 Fiend of Slaanesh w/ unholy might 1 Fiend of Slaanesh w/ unholy might
I’ve thought about the mixed force, but I haven’t been able to come up with a theme that fits at this format. The problem with the horrors and bloodletters in CP is the point cost of the models.
I’ve toyed with this idea 5 Horrors w/ Bolt of Tzeentch (95 pts) 5 Horrors w/ Bolt of Tzeentch (95 pts) 3 Flamers of Tzeentch (105 pts) 3 Flamers of Tzeentch (105 pts)
The problem with the above army is that a single deepstrike can result in the flamers just sitting for a turn and getting smoked by shooting.
Another option was a Khorne army, but I don’t want to spend the cash on buying more bloodcrushers.
5 Bloodletters (80 pts) 5 Bloodletters (80 pts) 2 Bloodcrushers (80 pts) 2 Bloodcrushers (80 pts) 2 Bloodcrushers (80 pts)
I do have to admit that this army seems like it would be one that can take home the prize if we are talking pure killing power. Each crusher has two wounds, 3+/5+ save, 3 attacks @ str 5, and furious charge. They are slow IMO, but can weather more shots than fiends. Group two units of crushers into the A slot and the ‘letters and other crusher unit into the B slot.
I expect the missions to be mixed and will likely be a combination of KP, objective holds, and VP games. The judge is a good guy with an excellent sense of the game, so I am walking in expecting the missions to be tough but balanced.

I have been giving this army some more thought and believe maybe I can accomplish a theme with mixed daemons that is more effective than a straight mono-god force.
5 Bloodletters (80 pts) 5 Bloodletters (80 pts) 5 Daemonettes (65 pts) 2 Bloodcrushers (80 pts) 2 Fiends of Slaanesh (60 pts) 1 Fiends of Slaanesh (30 pts)
I believe for daemonic arrival, I would divide the groups based on god. The question I am pondering is which group should be my “preferred” group.
Group A 5 Daemonettes 2 Fiends of Slaanesh 1 Fiends of Slaanesh
Group B 5 Bloodletters 5 Bloodletters 2 Bloodcrushers
This force seems like a good mix for dealing with 3+ saves and hordes.
I should have also mentioned that I have a strong dislike of Nurgle based on the current models. This means that we can discuss army lists using them, but I can tell you that I will not be seriously considering those lists.

I like the new Vrock (Lord of Change) model that they are releasing. I might purchase one from Gorilla Tactics later in the year.
