Privateer has finally announced that an updated version of Warmachine: Prime will be released in January. I was positive that this was coming, and it's finally confirmed. I'm stoked.
The long and short:
It's not "Warmachine: Second Edition." It'll still be the same game, with just minor tweaks and clarifications to the core system. My guess is that the core rules section will be nearly identical to Hordes: Primal.
All new full-color artwork. It'll finally match the rest of the WM / Hordes line.
All new fluff.
Consolidates all the changes and errata for the core rules in a single-place -- this is particularly significant since the line-of-sight rules have been changed since Prime came out.
Will tweak some of the existing models and units. Nothing specific is announced. My wager: we'll see Sorscha's feat debuffed, but some other aspect of her tweaked up. Jacks might get a buff across the board. Mechanics will probably get buffed up a bit.
Some system will be put in place for getting new cards for models that get updated.
Will have a painting guide incorporating Privateer's paint line, P3.
I'm really happy about this. Prime has been showing its age, and definitely needs the revision. It really needed to be brought up to the level of Privateer's later books, and I'm optimistic that the model tweaks will really improve balance (and up the viability of some older models). Also, I have a feeling that Privateer will be announcing some resculpts of old minis to tie-in to the book -- I'm guessing we'll see new sculpts for all the solos, and maybe warcasters. I wouldn't be suprised to see new Winterguard, mechanithralls, and maybe a few other units, as well. I also wouldn't be shocked if PP snuck in a couple new merc units, but that might just be wishful thinking.
