The 40K errata thread is locked I think so I'll just ask here.
Is it more proper to roll a scatter dice more or less next to the where the template is placed, or roll it 1 or more feet away and extrapolate the angle by moving your arm/tape measurer to the blast marker?
How does shooting out of a vehicle's fire point work exactly? For example, a Chimera has the top hatch as its fire point now. However, if you shoot towards the front of the tank, the turret is directly in line of sight with the hatch. This would also apply to a vehicle like the Rhino, which has hatches and other doo-hickies in the way. Therefore, for the purposes of drawing line of sight from a unit shooting out of a vehicle's fire point, do you draw line of sight 0.0001 mm above the fire point (hatch in this instance) or simply place the model on top and draw from there? This is fairly important because, technically, you'd be giving your opponents a constant 4+ cover save shooting towards the front of the tank from the (hatch) fire point. Not to mention, you'd never see anything near you, given the vehicle itself is in the way.
I'd just like feed-back and consensus on what is the most appropriate way to approach/remedy these potential issues as they came up in the last game between Frizzel, Jim, Mike and I.
Also, simply because I can't seem to find the bloody part of the rule book with the pinning rules, do passengers take a pinning check if your vehicle is WRECKED?
Thanks.

1. It's far more proper to roll the scatter dice next to the template; the distance can be chucked wherever, but everyone (including me sometimes, though I have a better eye I think) extrapolates wrong, so roll next to the template to be sure.
2. Pg 66. "Ranges and line of sight are measured from the fire point itself." So think of the rim as where the eyes of the shooter are. A turret or other stuff will block it or provide cover saves; hence why you'd usually shoot out the sides.
3. Pg 67. "Destroyed - wrecked" "The passengers must immediately disembark and then take a Pinning test." "Destroyed - explodes!" "The surviving passengers are placed where the vehicle used to be and then take a Pinning test."

Thanks. So I ruled the hatch LOS thingy wrong in our game. Feel bad for calling *BS* on that call on Frizzel's part, but it just sounded so counter-intuitive... Hooray for another RAW brain fart.
I was actually correct in that units in a wrecked transport take pinning checks.
Fortunately that 4+ cover-save wouldn't have even mattered in our game; an Immobilized Land Raider delivered Vulcan Hestan irregardless only to be force-weaponed by a Primaris Psyker and then punched in the fast by an over-sized fist ^_^.

You were playing Ted in that game btw.
To clarify, they did hold a tape measurer over the arrow in the proper direction and placed another paralell to it to measure the scatter distance. If I am not mistaken, Andrew did also stop by and confirm that it was in the correct position. Its a bit late to say anything after someone has rolled, and there is no reason to make a scene over it and argue it to hell.
So as etiquette is concerned, don't step on your opponents balls because they made a small mistake. That is very unsportsman like, especially when they remedied it in a logical fashion.

I really do suck with names . I do apologize for the LOS thingy with the hatch (I was wrong), but as far as the scatter die goes, it just irked me. No matter what your intentions are, you cannot keep an arm or tape measurer straight by moving it any significant distance; it just shifts. Which is why I always roll next to the blast, but it's not a big deal in the long run. Not even winning was the issue (mike and I had no chance with our army compositions) so it probably irked me more than it would have otherwise given a win was almost assured, the scatter die just wasn't rolled where it should've been. But again, no big deal. Maybe it be easier just to use like the warmachine direction template? I actually think that idea is superior to the scatter die; just roll to see whether or not you hit, then use that template to determine direction. As odd as it may sound, I've also been under a lot of stress as of late due to my own family drama and my significant other's family drama (a family member of hers is on the verge of death practically) so some of that pent up frustration probably came out when it shouldn't have. Gah, why cant stress and drama end with classes! At least now it's settled for future instances; which is what I was hoping for and why I asked for consensus.

Shitty man, our prayers are with you. I know how that can feel. I've been there before.
Don't take anything personal here. The underlined thing wasn't meant specifically for you. I know I can get hot headed sometimes, but I try my best to keep a level head.
Perfect example of good sportsmanship was Jeff McConnell in our last tourney btw. He was supportive of his opponent throughout the whole game. He even gave me tournament play tips. Great guy. Sold me his extra Motor Pool too.
As for the scatter thing, at least they weren't moving their arms. I see what you mean by that. But parallel lines are easy to spot. Thus why I thought using two tapes was legit.

Meh at least it's settled for the future ^_^. And I don't mind Delso people should speak their minds and you were right anyway. Since I allowed my private life to directly affect someone who had nothing to do with the drama, I could always buy you, Frizzel and Ted some beers and/or pizza at Pizza Pros or something sometime? This probably just makes me look more pathetic lol, but my father also had a near death experience that week Thursday morning. Diabetes + coma = bad... So yeah, stress + random meaningless fluke = i over-react so . Hell I should probably be freaking out more in general than just over a argument over a toy soldier's scatter die. Admittedly a very angry demonic toy soldier that ate my Veterans.

Such is life.
I'm just glad that one week is over and done with; too many close calls for my liking.
