So earlier today John Clemens, as well as myself and a few others went to the Battle Bunker in Downer's Grove. It was the 6th tournament for the AWC adepticon circuit series, or something like that. 32 people played, and I managed to pull off some orky/frizzell magic and get the 1st place at the tournament! It was a good tournament that actually incorporated those winter rules that Andrew posted a while back, so that was fun. The general impression I got from a good amount of the players was that the same people were winning over and over, and that it was pleasant to see a new face take the crown. Nearly every army was represented, even dark eldar and necrons. If anyone is curious about any of the details, let me know and I'll fill you in. See everyone thursday at club!

God damn cheaty-face Orks...
Good job! Just means you can't play in our dinky tournaments anymore, now that you've knocked 31 people off whatever crowns they had. Gotta go bigger, like A-con or GT!

Round 1: 4 Objective markers to control and pitched battle. Good pairing and a great matchup for my army. I played against a relatively new and inexperience player. He fielded a trip lascannon vendetta, standard LR, a missile launcher team, mortar team, yarrick (which was fun since I had Ghaz), Creed, and the rest was all standard infantry with a few special weapons here or there. I had his army boarded by turn 5, and had to kill yarrick about 4 times due to his 'not dead yet' rule thing. I managed to get 37 out of a possible 48 battle points for the round.
Round 2: Dawn of War and Kill points, with a few other wintery twists. The player was an Ultramarines player with a pretty fun list. Two land speeders, two vindicators, two dreadnoughts, dev squad, librarian, scouts, and a bunch of tac squads in rhinos. He had the first turn and rushed all of his vehicles 12 inches to get closer. I started with ghaz, reg nobs, and a truck on the field in the center of the table. Fortunately he missed all of his shooting at my truck with the landspeeders, and I risked needing 6's to hit his vehicles and assaulted him turn 1 while the rest of my army ran on the field. I immobilized and shook one vindicator, and blew up a landspeeder. I said some last rites as on his second turn he shot his entire army at my squad, and caused all of 3 wounds with my armor and FNP.....then he fired the vindicator. 235 points of killy nobs fell down, ghaz and one nob lived. He assaulted with a dread, killed my nob, but ghas finished off the dread. From there i launched a turn 2 waaagh and just started wading through his army. Again, I managed to get a 37 out of a possible 48 points.
Round 3: I'm on the second lead table, and although I thought I was initially behind by more, I ended up finding out I was only behind the top player by 5 points entering the round. My opponent is Greg Swanson, which from what I was told there is one of the top tier players in the area and has done well at adepticon tourneys and if I remember right the 'ard boys tournaments. I don't know the specific chapter, but the entire army was space marine bikes and attack bikes. The scenario was objective markers in each of our DZ's, spearhead deployment. Oh, and night fight was in effect the entire game due to blizzard conditions, and everything, even vehicles had a 5+ cover save. I get first turn, taking some pot shots and moving my army to spread out a bit. His turn he advances and spreads out, but he moves to about 24' away from all of my trukks without managing to destroy any of them. On my second turn, i move all my trukks and bail out with all of my units, and end up about 10 inches away from about 5 of his 10 units. He realizes he forgot about my waagh abiity, but stated that he hopes i still roll poorly on my fleet rolls. His mood soured when I reminded him that ghaz makes then an auto 6". One assault phase later, I wipe out just over half of his army from the mass assault, and the rest of the game is spent running around chasing his fleeing survivors. I managed to pull off 48/48 battle points for that round, which coupled by the lead player scoring only 39, catapulted me into first place in battle points by 4!
Prizes: $80 GW gift card, points in the AWC Tournament series, Championship Dice that they made for their series, and also a Championship Plaque for the tournament as well to be received on a later date. Oh, I also managed to gain a little pride and swagger in my game, as well as my sick dice rolling.

I'll probably hold it until April when the new Blood Angels stuff comes out, since there's nothing I really need/want right now.
