Planning an Apocalypse/Cities of Death Event

I dunno... can I do that?

I've been wanting to run an event for a while now and finally have the time to dedicate to it and the money to make the terrain that I want to use and such...

I know I probably have to talk to the store owner (Bear?) about a date and how big of a battlefield I can set up.

I'm thinking mid to late October, probably a Saturday if possible.

Here's the sketchy details so far...

Abaddon's 13th Black Crusade. An ancient set of artifacts of unknown origin and untold psychic power are enshrined in an almost forgotten temple complex (like they always are). Abaddon's Psyckers catch wind of this find and realise whoever holds these artifacts can hold sway over the planet and possibly use them for other purposes.

A Small contingent of Sisters of Battle and a squad of Grey Knights led by an inquisitor are guarding the artifacts and studying them. The Inquisitor has a premonition of impending darkness, and fearing that the artifacts will fall into the wrong hands, has called for reinforcements.

there are three possibilities:
1: The forces of good arrive before the forces of evil and are able to set up inside the temple complex while the forces of evil are forced to lay siege to the complex to gain entry.

2: The two forces arrive at the same time and join battle outside of the complex and will inevitably spill into the complex.

3: The forces of evil arrive before the forces of good and have taken the temple complex and slain the Inquisitor and his retinue. The forces of good have no choice but to reclaim the artifacts.

I would love for this to be monumental. I will be getting the Apocalypse and Cities of Death books and possibly the Planet Strike book. If someone can get me the main rules for Spearheads, that will probably be thrown in as well.

Spearhead rules are on GW's site for free, and I, as well as a few others, have the WD issue with more on it.
It'd be cool to make it a Necron artifact, as long as we could find a few other players, making a third and slightly bigger team. I am personally working on building Necrons.
But it sounds really awesome, and I would love to play. Sunday is probably the best day. Limited on hours unless you can talk to Bear about being open extra hours. But, it is the day with no real events going on other than a few RPG groups.

The e-board has to set up a time and date for our fundraiser tournament too, and that usually happens the last week of October. We have to set that up with Bear too, so just please keep that in mind if you approach him before we do. Apoc and cities of death are awesome =)

Thanks for reminding me of the tourney. I should probably put this off until Spring Semester then since my weekends are pretty booked in November and December is end of the semester and all. More time to make a truly epic event is always good.

Keep planning Ian. Currently, I'm setting a story for the Apocalypse game I just ran, and plan on doing at least 2-3 more this semester, like an Apoc campaign. Should be fun.

Not a prob, Frizzel. The more time I get, the more awesome it's going to be.

And I kinda want to get as many of the 40K players in on this as I can.

Andrew, the plan keeps planning.. I keep thinking about all the GW Mega Battles I've participated in and the campaigns and I'm starting to think that for this to be truly epic and have all the terrain that I'm working on properly appreciated, it does kinda need to be a more than one day event. Possibly a campaign, possibly a "rent a space for a weekend".

I plan on building a whole cathedral. not a "oh lets fit a couple thousand points of stuff in it" cathedral, but a Halls of Terra sort of cathedral... ok, not the roof...

Hopefully it will be. Still a lot of planning to do. I have a ton of different ideas for boards sitting in my head. I'm remembering one of the Armageddon mega battles where there were three tables going at the same time and events on each table effected what was happening on the other two. I we get enough people together, I would want to do something like that.

I think combined tables would be great. Maybe include BFG, Aeronautica Imperialis, or something.

Anyway, that's close to what I want to make. probably a starting point. it's a bit small though.
