So I'm a little excited. I went out to the Orland Park GW today, and I'm happy to say they have a nice little local core of guys there and the employee running the shop is one of the better GW guys I've had to deal with. I have everything in line with how I'm going to paint the Necrons I now have. I'm doing a metallic blue colour scheme, with red rods for the guns. I also plan on doing snow on their bases, with snow on the models as well. I want to go for an ominous look as if they're there, in the blizzard....just waiting for you. It's going to be my first endeavor into using snow for basing, some source lighting, and also the new washes...Any ideas or other advice anyone has for my scheme or using the aforementioned stuff?

I am working on snow also for my adepticon army. I have seen a couple of tutorials...I will see if I can find them again.

Here's how I did mine: - Gale Force 9 snow - white glue - water Make it the consistency of viscous oatmeal and glop it on. It sticks well and looks good for thin to deep snow. It ends up being very solid, with no worry about any chipping or simply coming off. Check 'em out here: otho.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=painting&action=display&thread=1621As for painting them, I'd make it easy and go with a silver following by an ink/dip/wash/whatever. Highlight the metal with the same silver you just tinted (as the original will now be darker) and you're set to go. Then details, etc. Since you want cool colors for all but the rod (which is a warm color) I'd go with red ro orange detailing to make it work. Also, to get the rod red, either straight up paint it or use Tamiya clear red to just tint it. Here's how GW did theirs: www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?pageMode=multi&categoryId=200008&pIndex=1&aId=11100045&start=2Also, I have some WD's that have source lighting and other cool stuff for Necron painting. I'll scrounge and scan it in for you.

For painting I'm going with tin bitz over a black primer. Then more or less drybrushing boltgun metal, then using the Asurmen Blue wash. From there I want more metal than blue to stand out so I'll highlight with boltgun or chainmail on top of the wash. I have ordered fluorescent red rods that i'm going to cut to size and use for the army. They should be in next week sometime, and hopefully I'll just go from there. I think too for the guns since i don't want them to be the same as the necrons themselves I just won't use the wash over it. Gives it a sweet old rusted look with just the bitz and bg metal. Thanks too drew for the source lighting stuff, I'd like to try that as well.
