So another Adepticon has come and gone and while the memories are still in my sleep deprived brain I thought I would jot down some stuff to let everyone know about the fun they missed.
So the two man was Saturday morning and this year Jason and I looked forward to running our Terminus/E Vlad team and meeting new people. So of course our first round game is against Billy and Brian... Epic fail for tourney organizers!!
Game 1: Being familiar with Billy and Brian's list (E-Denny and Harby) after playtesting so much against them Jason and I had our work cut out for us. The senario was... ah I forget the name but you had three control zones in the middle of the board you get zero for controlling the zone nearest you, one point for the middle zone and two points for the zone nearest your enemies side of the board.
Usually Billy and Brian's list locks us down and we can't stop them from scoring control points but luckily Brian gave Jason a tip and we had no problem using it against them! With our team going first I feat and mini feat six IFP up the board almost to the 2 point control zone. this allows us to contest as we have units in all control zones.
The long and short of it is the game grinds out (as was the plan for our army) Jason has only a couple moments of uber tough rolls but in the end we expose Terminus and he dies... dice go down and Billy and Brian win... we lose. But this time around we were much more successful than normal and had a fighting chance.
Round 2: With the pressure of going perfect for the tourney off me and Jason's shoulders we gear up for a second round match against Skorne (Zaal) and some other caster that I can't remember (as apparently it didn't do much!
The long and the short of it was the senario was fine but it was a bad match up for Jason as Zaal prevents Terminus from taking the souls of dead Skorne. I rolled up my side and Jason bogged the middle and right flank but we were surprised on Jason's feat turn on the soul issue and ended up leaving Terminus exposed and he got plowed by a bronzeback. We diced down but lost due to caster.
Round 3: We play against some very fun guys from NY and their mini keg of beer! As they are 0-2 like us they had started drinking pretty heavily... okay one of them did. they are an all Legion force of Saryn/E-Lylth. the senario was Grind...
All of us were not paying attention to the tie breaker terms which was a shame as both teams may have played the senario differently and Jason and I would have also won... different story and sorry's go out to Brian and Billy. Anyway the NY guys danced around trying to snipe at Jason's stealth banes and war witch to no effect. Terminus drives the middle weathering any fire sent his way with tough rolls on his fodder. Saryn is pinned up andI advance up on his beast heavy side waiting to feat and roll into them. In the end they pop both their feats on the same turn to pretty much no effect. Jason feats and becomes uber (armor 24-26) and if not for Saryn's feat some IFP go uber and slaughter her.
Unfortutnately we diced down before we can get in to kill... they did not advance more than 6-12 inches out of the deployment zone and we pushed into theirs taking light losses. We had moved the Grinder once as Jason was frustrated at not being able to get to the enemy safely and murder them... this is where the sad part comes in. At dice down we tally tie breakers and they win on points killed (like we killed 8 and they took out 12 or 16). Had we listened to senario terms we actually won as second tie breaker was who moved the grinder closer to the scoring zone... didn't phase me and Jason much but affected Brian and Billy's strength of schedule and possibly cost them second or third place... again sorry guys.
Round 4: So last round and Jason and I with no wins match up with a Circle (E-Kaya) beast heavy list and Ret. (Ravyn) mage hunter heavy list. Senario is quarters and Sacrifice... control flag B2B and the zone... when you score your figures in B2B with flag basically die.
Circle guy decides to send beasts to hold flag while superior number retribution forces flood scoring zone. I square off with Circle and Jason swarms the zone.
Long story short our opponents list was not able to handle large numbers of troops. Also Circle opponent didn't realize how fast IFP get up field when Uber due to Vlad's feat and IFP UA mini feat. I decimate several beasts on second turn... killing three of four beasts by turn three. Damn Shadowhorn is tough! Jason almost gets tagged by a Mage hunter solo but the guy misses the assasination run. We aren't able to kill Kaya (though we pounded her a bunch) and we rolled up the Ret forces as Jason feated and got his armor up to 29... Rayvnn cut a path to Terminus but did nothing (couldn't put any damage on him) and we diced down before Jason could strike back. End result with more scoring units in the control zone we get the first win for team Chyson!! ;D
So overall the team tourney was a great time (better than last year in my opinion) we didn't get tabled and met some great people... aside from that first round team... Jason was a bit down as Terminus got nailed in rounds one and two but was happier as he got to see what Terminy could down later.
So for those of you on the fence for this one... get over there next year for the two-man! It is a good time!
