Hey Guys. I suppose I should post my battle report from the fantasy tournament I went to last weekend. For the most part I got curb stomped (went 1-4) in 3000 Pt 5 round tournament that took place over 2 days in Bloomington.
I played my dark elf army with a composition of:
1x lv sorceress
1x battle standard bearer
1x shadowblade
2x 10 man unit of repeater crossbowmen
1x unit of 50 corsairs
2x 20 man units of black gaurd
1x 20 man unit of executioners
2x bolt throwers
2x hydras
Round 1: Dark Elves vs Orcs and Goblins
This was a night battle so our deployment was randomized. I had the advantage because 4 of my units rolled 6's so they could be set up anywhere and I set my army down second. I also stole the initiative. The game went to time after 5 rounds and I won by a fairly large margin using victory points.
Game highlight: One of my Hydra's charged his Arachnaroch (sp) spider and won the combat in one turn and made the spider run. The hydra did not catch him though and was murdered by one of those super fanatics. My executioners eventually got the spider.
Round 2: Dark Elves vs Wood Elves
This was the senario which you have to roll for each unit to see if a unit starts on the board. I had no units start off of the table and he had his treeman and a unit of treekin. That gave him a huge advantage because I could not position my bolt throwers for the treeman. He won by about 200 victory points at the end of the 6th turn. My opponent went on to win the tournament.
Highlight: My wizard and shadowblade are the only ones left from the corsairs and run from the treekin and treeman. Shadowblade dies from dangerous terrain and the wizard rallies and attempts to cast a spell on the last turn at the treeman. She total powers and gets sucked into the void and dies. That lost me the game. It was a pretty hilarious series of events.
Round 3: Dark Elves vs Lizardmen
This was a watchtower and I started in the tower with 10 crossbows. He eventually got a unit of 30 saurus into it and I could not take them out for the entire game and I lost. Lore of light is a son of a bitch.
Highlight: was actually a pretty lack luster game.
Round 4: Dark Elves vs Chaos
This was a straight up battleline vs one of my buddies I went to the tournament with. He brought 3 units of 15 warriors, 2 warshrines, and a unit of 19 knights with archaon. I got my 50 corairs into archaons unit and held them up for 2 full turns. That was the only combat they saw the rest of the game. I destroyed the rest of his army. He won my about 200 victory points.
Highlight: In the last turn. Archaon got the number 6 tzeench spell off and rolled box cars on the strenght on my executioners making them dissapear. That is what lost me the game.
Round 5: Dark Elves ve Dark Elves
Blood and glory game where I got stomped by turn three. Distraught at how well I did in the tournament I decided to drink a couple beers at lunch and got a pretty nice buzz for this game. It may or may not of influenced my play I made so many play mistakes.
Highlight: his hydra breathed fire on a unit of 20 black gaurd and killed 15 of them.
I really enjoyed the tournament overall. I did pretty well for never play testing my list and this being my very first large tournament. I learned a lot and will retool my list.
