I'm thinking of starting up a 40k league, with small prizes available. Anybody interested? I'd like to get lots of people. The following are the rules:
The Challenge Board
The league system requires an in-store display or Challenge Board. The board has player tags for each participant that can be moved up and down the display to show each player's present standing. Each tile shows the player's name, army affiliation, contact info, and space for a challenge token.
The Goal
Put simply, your goal in the league is to fight your way to the top of the heap and defend your position successfully against three challengers.
Start up
The best system for starting the league is to hold a tournament and fill the pyramid according to players' final scores. The first place winner is placed at the top with the other finishers filling in the lower tiers. The best player/army in the store will start on top and have the first crack at immortality.
Advancing
Players on each tier of the pyramid may challenge any player on the next higher tier to a match at any time. The right to issue a challenge is earned only after that player has successfully defended his present position. A player on an upper tier may be challenged by more than one player from a lower tier; the games are played in order of who challenged first. Just be aware that, should the defender lose an early game, the later challenges are nullified as the original defender is no longer there. New challenges may be made.
Here's where the Challenge Tokens come into play. When a player successfully defends his spot, he gets a Token. he may then spend the Token to challenge a player on the next tier. If the challenger wins, the two players switch spots on the pyramid. If the challenger loses, the winning defender receives a Challenge Token. This exchange of Tokens and challenges is the heart of the system. The exceptions to this rule are as follows:
1. Players on the bottom tier may challenge anyone on the next higher tier. No one wants to be on the bottom rung!
2. The player in the top position must collect three Challenge Tokens to achieve total victory!
Victory!
Upon achieving this lofty goal, the winning player will be immortalized on the website and a gift card for the shop, with all due pomp and circumstance. The winner's army will then graduate from the league. Winners must use a new army to re-enter the league to give everyone else a chance against their might generalship and tabletop gaming prowess.
Special Rules
- There is no upper limit on the points size of any game, but any games played in the top two tiers must be at least 2000 points.
- Players are encouraged to challenge and play at least one game every week. Failure to do so will cost them their position on the board, dropping one tier per week. This will move up a randomly selected player on the lower tier.
- Scenarios can be chosen from the standard ones in the BRB or any special mission s from any of the expansions. Agree with your opponent beforehand which scenario you'll be using.
- Players are locked into the army-type they register, but not the specific list. They may customize their list from battle to battle or even based on the opponent they are about to face, but they cannot change which codex they use.
- One player may play multiple armies, as long as he games at least once a week with each army. The player must have a player tag for each army.
- There is no limit to the number of players who may play in this league.
- Players are required to provide their own tags; these can easily be made from bases, cards, or whatever else you want.
