I wanted to get people'e opinions now that we have had a chance to read through the SR2013 rules. I wanted to pick your guy's brains about list building for the new tournaments and maybe talk about how we may host tournaments in the future.
I have been noticing a trend on the PP boards of people running tournaments now that bring only one list, and then use 10 points of specialists as a sideboard (via magic tournaments). I was wondering what you guys thought about this? Is sticking to one list and basically one caster something that you guys like or think that it won't be fun and is better suited for more competitive tournaments?

I like a one list format when I am playing for the simple reason that I don't have to lug a ton of miniatures from table to table. Even though I had a ticket I didn't play in the Masters at Adepticon last year because it was three 50 point lists... I have the miniatures for it but carrying 150+ points table to table and then where to put the miniatures I am not using when space is very tight.
That being said I would probably run two lists events for most tourneys. When you are restricted to one caster there are many hard counters to your list, even with side bar figures. Of course when I run two list events it is optional for you to have two lists... but that is a meta specific decision as our store may have players that can only afford to run one list. Just like many of our events are at 35 points.
However the new format is interesting and we may have to give a whirl to see how it works in an upcoming event.
Of which I will be posting two March events in the next week or so... a tier tourney and a two man. These will help people get ready for some events at Adepticon.

One list. Man up and play like the rest of the games.

I agree Greg about the carrying of models around. I think that a one list event for a Tiered tourney would work out best since most people can only run maybe one warnoun's tiered army anyways.
And Andrew, by rest of the games I assume you mean 40K and fantasy and anything else GW produced? I think if anything they're alone in that department now a days. Most of the miniatures games now have expanded list building rules for tournaments. For example, Malifaux you choose a faction and build your list every round of the tournament once your opponent and mission is known which gives a lot of variety for list building and it works quite well.
Likewise in Infinity the tournament and league structures follow that notion in allowing you to build multiple lists for events. Also the slogan in the community is "it's not your list, it's you". There really are no auto-includes or win button models in the Infinity universe. Even the biggest TAG (or Mech) can be brought down by any asshole with a rifle. This makes it so that games are more about the player's skill with what he has rather then "net decking" a list. You're not gonna go to an infinity tournament or a malifaux tournament or even a warmachine tournament and see the same 1850 dragowing army make up 60% of the playing field because thats what the newest powerful codex was at the time.
In my opinion I think even GW is heading this route with the new allies rules (if I understand them correctly). Now you can create a list from multiple factions that can reinforce each other's weaknesses, thus expanding even a 1 list event into the chance of accomplishing different objectives based on their combined strengths.

Na, any of the others that the club doesn't play restrict you to one list. It requires more effort to win with a single list than with tailored lists, I know how you're lazy.
