This is for advice anybody might seek about tactics. The only army I can't help with is Dark Eldar. But otherwise, tactics for fighting with or against any other army I can and will give, even if it's for fighting me. I always like a challenge!

Easy get them into close combat as they lack any true close combat unit.

Use lots of cover and advance. Stay out of los until you must, then WHAM they die in close combat. If lacking cover, use vehicles with smoke launchers (or fast vehicles) as cover. Playing the shooting game against Tau, while doable, isn't the best. Or, like Caleb, just drop and boo.

ya tau died to my canoness pretty damn hard. she actually absorbed most fire too. i cant take that many plasma shots though. it was actually really funny. that's my technique send canoness after the whole army and watch them die miserably.

I would like a real culexus though...
You need an inquisitor (you have hat man) to take him as well.

i can do that, but you have to have an inquistor to take an assasin?

ya that would be fucking crazy!!! leadership down to 7 if the assassin is within 12" (which is also the FoD range) then fear of the darkness at -2. who the f can ever get a 5 on 2d?!?! ya that would be devastating.

Yes you must have an Inquisitor to be able to take any assassins. This, in addition to that as allies you can have only 1 Elites choice from the DH or WH books, means you must take an Inquisitor Lord (HQ) to be able to take any assassin (1 Elite). A lord is 45 pts, with nothing. So basically, an assassin in a non-DH or WH army costs +45 and an HQ slot in addition to it's normal cost.

yep 45 for inquisitor, like 100 something for librarian (dont know smurfies), and 105 for culexus, all base. lots of points but could be very effective. then again, if u have tons of ap3 or better shots coming at them, wouldnt be that effective now would it? tau have plenty of that, i know from experience.

another good tactic against tau is to take lots of basic infantry and charge them across the board. Most tau players are geared towards taking down marines and vehicles, so if you can take a lot of basic infantry, you'll ahve thwem outnumbered and can easily beat them in cc. i used to play against a tau player and used 5 squads of 7 marines and a unit of 5 demons. they just can't deal with 41 toughness 5 models with a 3+ save.

most armies would have a hard time dealing with that

but the tau especially so, since they don't have very many group killing weapons, besides the ion cannon and plasma at short range

ouch. ya i dont really think anyone is adept at killing your chaos seeing how u give them all those spawnings that make them frickin invincible. 3+ save, 5+ inv, toughness 5. ya ouch. and 41 of them. jebus.
