So, I've decided I want to make a new army. Since I've pretty much got my Imperial Guard exactly where I want them (heavily reliant on tanks) - I'd like to move on.
My new army, I'd like to be extremely mobile. In the sense that the Guard generally stand there and bombard the enemy, I'd like my new army to be vastly more mobile and hand to hand combat oriented.
I was thinking possibly space marines?
Could anyone reccomend to me a specific space marine chapter that excels in mobility and speed? My gut reaction is Space Wolves (this is based on how they look as I know none of the rules for any of the chapters).
EDIT: Oh and what texts do I need to purchase? Is there some vanilla Space Marine Codex I need in addition to the chapter book?

I would suggest one of the following 3 Blood Angels, Black Templars and White Scar.

blood angels...pfff. who doesn't have a blood angels army? my adopted step-son that doesn't exist has a fully playable blood angels army and he doesn't even exist. That shows you how many people have a blood angels army. go with anything but them, unless you want to have a kidney stone from all the dairy that will be surging through your body then feel free...oh wait all space marine armies are dairy queens. haha

Actually not as many people have Blood Angels as they do some other chapter, like DIY.
As for speedy marines, mount them all in transports and use plenty of bikes and landspeeders. Make a DIY. Take the traits that allow Assault Squads to be taken as Elites or Fast Attack and Bikes (but not assault bikes or scout bikes) to be taken as Elites or Troops.
Notable "speedy" armies are the Ravenwing and White Scars. They both are primarily bikes and landspeeders. Not Blood Angels though. They are just another space marine army that happens like like the taste of blood sometimes...
As for needing extra books, you'll need the Marine codex, Dark Angel codex (for the Ravenwing), or an Index Astartes book for the Scars. Or, like I said, you can do it yourself and just need the main codex.

Huh, no one suggested Space Wolves. Where do they fall in line with the Dark Angels, Blood Angels or White Scars in terms of mobility and hand to hand combat?

Neh. We already have two space pup players (my only reference to it ever, as even I detest it =P) in the club. They aren't entirely great anyway...more beardy than straight up fast or anything. They certainly are choppy...

Dark Angel (Ravenwing) and White Scars are more vehicle based. Blood Angels and space wolves would be about the same. I still believe the Templars are the way to go. Reason can have big squads more staying power. They have special movement as do the Blood Angels. To me Space Wolves are good in hand to hand combat but don't really have anthing to help you get into it faster except the norm. this is just my .02 cent worth.

Ah, true. If you want truly fast marines, take Black Templars in many squads of 10 or less. Every time they fail a morale test, they run for the nearest enemy instead, and don't count as broken! Of course, this could be used against you by clever opponents...
And yes, the Raven Guard do have a very nice special character. His master-crafted lightning claws are rending! That is also a good speedy army.
Here's how I'll breka thingsa down for ya. Speedy Shooty: White Scars, Ravenwing (Dark Angels) Speedy Balanced/either way: Blood Angels, Black Templars Speedy Combat: Space Wolves, Raven Guard
Category bests Fastest: Ravenwing, Black Templars, Raven Guard Shootiest: White Scars, Both, Raven Guard Choppiest: White Scars, Both, Space Wolves
I'm saying those boths because it's true. Both are good at either, depending on the army build.
