or something like that... There seems to be much angst and rage floating around the new suppliment that includes the new plastic Baneblade. 40K Apocalypse. There's no official details yet, for the general public at least, but from what I've seen it's about playing games of 3000+ points. On the GW site, in the sneak peaks section you will find box sets of tanks. 10 Leman Russ, 2 Monoliths, 3 Tau tanks, a whole freaking Space Marine battle company of 116 guys and 9 rhinos, 3 Vindicators. There's even a Nurgle Baneblade. I've even heard rumors of Titans.
Now, I dunno about you, but I've always wanted to field an Imp Guard tank company, but always found it to be restricted by the price. $40 for a Leman Russ adds up quickly, so I hope they're going to offer a sweet discount on the box of 10 or I don't see too many of them scampering off the shelf.
Part of me thinks that having several thousands of points of Space Marines rampaging across a battlefield to clash with several thousand points of Tyranids would be pretty cool. But another part is cringing at the prospect of having to buy andpaint all that... not to mention the days that it would take to play a game.
So, what does everyone else think?

I personally am a fan of big games...they are fun for the most part. I agree with you completely about the price thing though...unless GW offers a discount on these mass packages I dont see a lot of people buying them...though I am sure some people still will. Painting them would be the most daunting thing for me as I have trouble finshing my regular sized army let alone armies over 3000+ pts. My empire army is just over 3000+ pts and it still isnt completely finished and it has taken me like 4-5 years to get done what is actually done.

*nods* I'm a pretty slow collector myself, and I like to try more than one army which slows things down even further. Also, I can currently field almost 2800 points with my Space Marines... without filling up the force organization chart... and I only field 2 tanks with that list. And it's still not all painted.

tanks are overrated mobius ;D why field em' when one can pop an entire Land Raider the 1st turn? i field basically a Hammer Head just because of its anti-infantry large blast thingy, my broad side infantry pop tanks more reliably, safely and cheaply. I've read online briefly about this Apocalypse thing and don't think it's going to sell at all cause even with discounts i'm not spending what is probably going to be at least 300+ bucks for osme of these boxes (though painting/assembling i'd LOVE). besides, why buy said boxes when as Tau i can sit on one end of the map and with my several Apocalypse Hammer Heads pop every Leman Russ in that horde of Imperial Guard in at most 2 turns? then just pop large blast templates to instant kill all those guards?.... i'd think that huge battles would only work across large maps with multiple players, armies and special objectives/terrain to make it worthwhile, thereby reducing the chances of said massacre i just described.

Yeah.. it sucks seeing all that you've lovingly assembled and painted massacred in the first couple turns. I like the special objectives idea. I think it would be interesting to have a whole warehouse full of terrain and run a campaign all at once. Then you could use the fun supply line models that forgeworld put out and actually use the 120 inch range of the Basillisks.

true, be fine with me seeing as the only infantry i have in my army is static and hides in the woods like the pansies they are. Plus it be a great opportunity to see what dropping O'Shovah and his retinue of 7 Crisis Suits behind enemy lines across a 125" map... Basilisk negated ^_^.

The club did a big multiplayer/ table Fall semester of 05'... it was fun but we didnt get to play out the full 6 rounds cause it took so long and we only had the the room for 4 hours I believe (this is back when we held meetings at the Student Center). I think it was 15000-18000 total points on the table. 1 Baneblade was present....a butt load of Tau and Eldar....some chaos marines....Dark Eldar...and A bunch of imperials of many flavors. It was fun I wish we had some pics of that...I though we had some somewhere.

Otho: I know I'm the new kid, as it were, but I think it would be fun to do the mega battle thing again. The last one I participated in was during the War for Armageddon summer campaign. I fondly remember having actual off-board artillary hitting my troops with friendly fire.... the artillary was on the next table over. good times. Vic: How do you like your Armoured Company?

Well I am sure some other members might be interested in that...especially those that arent participating in the Warmachine Call to Arms leagues that will be goin on till probably end of the semester. Andrew (Seahawk or whatever his board name is right now) would probably be willing to try and run something for 40K this semester or possibly Ian (e1567). I sadly will not be able to run said event as I live an hour and a half away and will only make it to a few meetings.

Also dont worry about being the new guy...I am glad to see that our new members are active...thats what I prefer to see. I would rather have you be active and interested in our club than the opposite. So...yeah...keep up the good work.

If anyone would like, I could punch them squarely in the testicles, which would simulate both the fun and painlessness of a multi-player 40K mega battle. Also, I could take $500 dollars from you and arrange you a game at a daycare center in order to simulate the full GW experience.
Just repeat after me, in a high pre-pubescent voice, "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!" (repeat indefinately)

The Armored Company is fun, but it's certainly not all that viable. Tank Shock sucks and Las Cannons / Plasma / Whatever - The Fuck - Space Marines Have Access To take out tanks far too easily.

While you guys are talking about mega games, has anyone else heard John at OBG talk about this huge game he wants to do. He said something like 14 teams, a 4 on 4 on 6 three headed warzone with 2000 lists. I remember he said 4 were going to be imperial, IG and marines and such but I haven't heard anything more of it. He said some time in late august but no on else has spoke on it so I was wondering if you guys had heard anything?
