40K 4.1 is around the corner

-Well look here: Some exciting 5th edition rumors. Caveat emptor my friends...


OK, I'm going to post these other rumours appeared on GW Tilea: the source is trustworthy.


- First of all, WH40K V Edition will see the light before summer 2008 (yes you read it right), just after the Codexaemons.
There's not much in the new edition that is going to be radically changed, the things which will be modified for sure are:

1) rules about vehicles
2) damage chart for vehicles (MAYBE we'll have one only chart for glancing and penetrating hits, with modifiers according to the weapon which scored the hit - note that this is an uncertain rumour)
3) rules about psychic powers
4) small variations on HtH combat

the source denied any further explaination.

It has been speculated that the new Starter Box will include SM and Orks (both in plastic).

And THEN?

- Codex: Imperial Guard.
New miniatures are ready, the Codex is still undergoing the brainstorming phase
It is almost certain that the Combat Doctrines will remain in the Codex.
New plastic soldiers with great coats and different heads: we'll have Death Korps of Krieg and Valhallans!!!
Possible new Valkyrie in plastic.
New bits for the Sentinel in order to be able to field all of the four patterns in plastic!
New bits for Rough Riders.


- Dark Eldar.
The entire range is going to be redone with new design.
At the moment they're going to made the first new models!
The rules (according to the source) are NOT going to be much changed, except for some units (the source didn't specify which ones).


- Necrons
We won't see them before the end of 2009!!!
However, the Codex will be redone and will feature new models.
Pariah and Immortals are going to be redone.
Maybe new bipod/vehicle?


- Space Wolves
end 2008 - beginning 2009
The Codex has been planned, but nothing is certain.
MAYBE (uncertain rumour) the SW list will be integrated with the 13th Company's units and rules.


Unfortunately, the Codex:Inquisition is still not in schedule We won't see it for a veeeeery long time...

"Some of this is correct and some is a bit inaccurate.

Vehicle rules are undergoing a pretty big overhaul which some will be quite unhappy about.
There will be one vehicle damage chart with modifiers for glancing/penetrating hits.

Overall most sections are being amended to a degree up to and including missions.

It's a new edition hence a new rulebook IIRC."

Not really whole lot of actual info though I like that more Imperial Guard stuff is coming out.

Also glad to hear that Dark Eldar are having something done to them.

Wish new box set didnt include Space Marines but what was to be really expected. Try to push different armies on the kids but why do that when we know they are suckers for the SMurfs. No offense to any club members playing SM but seriously to many people play them.

Ye olde 2nd edition had Blood Angels and Orks. Man those models are so lame...but so cool too.

I would imagine they would at least make a few units have better armor saves or strength for the Dark Eldar.

Aren't the Death Korps IG with the gas masks? Because those figures were sweet.

Yup, they are indeed IG with gas masks... and send their Chimeras across minefields to clear them and build ramps with their own dead, etc. etc. ... I think according to the Forge World model, the Quartermaster for the Death Korps is like their commissar... and will shoot the dying and strip them of reusable uniform bits. gotta love these guys!

I hope they revise the rules regarding Armor Penetration (normal AP not with regard to vehicles) and cover saves because both systems seem a bit out of whack. AP should, if anything, make it easier for the shooter to wound their target not deny the enemy their save. Cover saves should also be used as say in place of a normal armor save. if that save is failed, then you get to roll for their normal armor save to determine if the unit gets wounded. Anyone else have thoughts/opinions on this?

Yea. The system should be like Fantasy, where if you fail your armor save you may then attempt the ward save.

Normally I would agree with you Andrew, but I know from using the Death Company that anything that lets you reroll something that is dead really pisses people off.

True, but the whole AP system needs another look as it is otherwise the majority of units in the game, well, their save is meaningless most of the time . Da Orks n' such deserve at least a 1/6 chance of smacking that bullet out of the air...

It used to be a modifier system, just like Fantasy. But they axed it for a simple numeric system.

Eh, it's not that bad Ian. People just don't know how to deal with T4 and FNP. Which they should. Jerks. Yeea! Zombies in Apocalypse games get T2 and FNP! So worthless! Except against lasguns... Oh and hey, try Fantasy against me and see how you like it when your army (High Elves that always strike first, for instance) does 7 wounds to my unit of Knights when I charged, and I make 6 of those 2+ saves, then proceed to make my 6+ ward save on the last guy, or cause 14 wounds with a goblin fanatic, and I pass 8 of my 4+ armor saves and another 5 of my 5+ ward saves (it gets better as the enemy strength goes up). It's great fun.
