I'm making up my own space marine chapter - I have all the models but need to paint them. The retrievers are going to be gold with black, a dog paw tattoo i have is being used as inspiration for the chapter symbol.
I have in total - not all to be fielded at the same time of course
1 Commander 1 Command Squad 1 Librarian 3 Chaplains - regular, assualt, and terminator versions 1 Techmarine 3 Tactical Squads - Lascannon in one, rockets in two 1 Devastator squad - 4 las cannon 1 Assualt Squad 1 Scout Squad with sniper rifles 1 Terminator squad 1 Razorback 1 Predator 1 Dreadnought 1 Land Raider Crusader to carry the Terminators with the chaplain also I thought of another dreadnought but i don't know. Any other comments or ideas by anyone would be appreciated. I used to play but haven't for a while and i'm getting back into this alot. I really like painting and playing so having peices that i don't ever use doesn't bother me because i like to paint them anyways. Later

Seems like you have a lot of stuff. Assualt marines (the guys with the jump packs) are awesome...they always kick my ass. I would suggest those if you dont have them and more if you do...unless field allowance is only 1 then disregard this message.

I have one squad of assault. You can have up to three fast attack picks, but alas i only have one squad of assault jump packs troops. Going to see how well they fit in my army if i want to buy more. Everything else i have is not considered fast attack options

Well, you've definitely got a good amount to work with there (woof!). I'm the resident "marine guy" in the club, so any questions, suggestions, or advice about them I'd be happy to give.

Question on terminators - is it worth spending the points to give the missile launcher on the back or better to just go with straight attack. I've got an assault cannon for one. Also, what's better, the power fists or the chain fists. I know there is something about the chainfists working against armor but i didn't understand it to much

It depends on what else you're using in your army. Since you already have a usable devastator squad plus more anti-tank weapons, you don't really need it on the terminators. However, if you are down by 25pts, you can always magnetize it so you have the choice.
I myself mostly use them for anti-infantry tactics, so it's all about the massed amounts of firepower rather than a single shot missile.
Most of the time power fists and chainfists are exactly the same against infantry. The only difference is when damaging vehicles, the chainfists get 2D6 + 8, while the power fists only get D6 + 8. I have a few chainfists modeled so that if I need them I can use them, but most of the time I just count them as power fists. They have their uses.

Just a question, I am attempting to keep on here progress about how my army is coming along. If one wants to post a photo, how does one do that? I don't see an attachment button so this is different from anything i've done before.

When you post....there is a section right above where you type your message...in this section there is a button for adding photo's when you click this button this will appear in the message typing area: - [img}w.postpicshereforgoodtime.co[/img] the easiest way I have found for posting pics is to set up a photobucket account (its free). photobucket.com/when you set up an account and load pics onto the account it gives you a URL for each picture. You simply copy and paste the url inbetween the two image brackets. See above. If you need more help let me know. looking forward to seeing your pics.

I definitely like the look. It is very smooth. Also the Paw symbol is well done.

Well, the units are put together, not painted, but with my work schedule, that's more than I could hope for. As for the tanks, well, still working on those. The glue fume induced dreams shall continue....

If you're going to do the rubbed metal look, I'd try Chainmail over boltgun. It's a little brighter and would just feel more right to me, but your choice. Adam, the supa-freak painter, suggests rubbing a pencil along the edges and it will work the same. It takes some practice though; push too hard and the paint will come off. Lastly with that, try to keep it to a minimum, since not everything everywhere will get scratched, and you don't want the silver to overpower the gold.
Otherwise, I like the freehand dog paw. Nice touch.

So, I really want the new land raider term. just because there is no way I could not love fielding something with that much firepower riding around on it. I have been informed by John that it's only allowed in apocalypse format though so no reg tournament play for it. May still buy it though, fun just to sit it around and see what the enemy is allowed to field equal to its 300 point cost.

Well he is right; Forgeworld is allowed but no Apocalypse. Now, if you want, you can buy a regular land raider and a predator. I know it's more, but if you magnetize the sponsons on them all, you can simply swap them out to make it a normal or terminus land raider. Of course, I suppose you could just get a terminus and do the same.
