This is the 'next big thing' in MMOs right now. It's made by the same people who made Dark Age of Camelot and is supposedly going to be almost entirely PvP based within individual servers and then Server v. Server wars.
It also is going to feature an unprecedented emphasis of personal graphics. Such, when your character levels you will obtain more 'vicious' graphical updates. For example, Orks will be able to adorn their armor with body parts of the enemy and dwarves will grow longer and more impressive beards. The idea is to stop that problem with most MMOs - in that you look identical to everyone else at the end of the game.
There was a huge interview with one of the main developers on mmorpg.com if anyone cares to dredge it up.

i think it may have been scrapped though, if u wanan play a good mmo check out Vanguard or LOTR Online that are coming out...vanguard is supposed to kick the shit out of WoW..its got like 19 fully customizeable races...and its not made by SOE so u know its good

Vangard is not going to be any good.
and Warhammer Online had a full page preview in this month's Game Informer, so unless anything happened since then - I don't think it's been scrapped.

yea i misread the warhammer online, i found an old site that talked about last year when it got cancelled...but it got picked up again

It was cancelled about two or three years ago. The current company obviously picked it up. It will be completed though. Not that I'll buy it =P.

it was cancelled and then picked back up again. the way they described is that there will be 3 different areas. one of the mountains which will feature orcs vs dwarves, one of the northern empire, which will be empire vs chaos, and one of ulthuan which will be dark elves vs high elves. players can pick any of the 6 races and fight anywhere they like 9 so a dwarf can help the men of the empire defeat chaos.)
each zone is also divided into several different zones depending upon levels. each race also has a home city and an area inbetween the two cities of warring races. the area in between is where pvp occurs, and if one side wins enough battles they invade the other teams home city and start besieging it.

ya i agree what will be an awesome game. too bad the req are prob going to suck and the monthly fees grrrrrrrrrr. but if all is reasonable i would definitely jump on it.
