I have been spitballing an idea with a few of the guys, and I figured I would post it to see if these is any more interest. I'll admit, it is pretty retarded, but I think it could be alot of fun.
I want to lead a Holy Crusade from the Bristol Renaissance Fair to Antioch, IL. I don't know what we will do when we get there, maybe lay siege to something. It will be by foot, and it is about ten miles. I figure we will do it in the summer to replicate the conditions of a journey in the middle east.
All involved MUST be garbed in a historically accurate impression. Thus far, I have nominated myself a Crusader, others have chosen Priests and various retinue members. We must be in character the entire time, hell or high water.
If people are really interested, I will look into getting approval from the local townships to get a perscribed, legal route.
Let me know what you think, I think it could be hilarious.

Looking at prices for alot of accurate suits of armor and whatnot, it is pretty rediculous. Renting is actually alot cheaper. I found a place where I can rent a really nice outfit for about 50 bucks (non inclusive of the sword, I think)

Plans have changed, I might be interested, i'll even have a serving wench with me.
If renting an outfit is about $50, i'd be interested. When it comes to weapons of any kind, don't you need a permit to carry them on your body and they have to stay in their sheaths?

nah, matt the huge is much cooler than that. he's basically a swordsman that challenges a lot/most people to duels, and most likely loses.

Historical reenactment is fun for the whole family and its educational so we are kinda providing a service. Now i just need to get replica period clothing...

Well, a few basics for all the non-history majors...
We are dealing with the 11th and 12th centuries, so one must be selective in their choosing of an impression (if this were to go down, which is probably unlikely). Lots of chain mail, little or no plate mail. As the Templars were a monastic order, women are pretty much exempt. Not that women would not be 'taken' during the journey, one would simply not set forth with such extra, otherwise useless baggage (sorry, history is a bitch.) At least not officially. As with any historical reenactment, you want to represent the norm, not the exception. That being said, look up stuff on the Templars. if we had a bunch of them, it would be extra sweet.
