Idea 1 Tournaments
Very simple. We run a tournament and charge $5-10 per person, depending on how many people we get. Cash is collected early (before the day of the tournament) so prizes can be obtained and the profits put into a club fund somewhere.
Idea 2 Raffles/auctions
People bring in models they don't want anymore and we hold a club auction. We obviously can't talk as fast as a professional auctioneer, but the system would work. All the money would go to club coffers. Same with the raffle. People bring in whatever they don't want anymore. Have it like $1 a ticket, $5 for 6 tickets. Keep pulling until there's nothing left to give away.
Mind you, for the above idea, it doesn't have to be gaming mini's. It can be any model of any kind. And really, it can be anything of any kind. If you don't want it anymore and think someone will buy it (ie no dirty old underwear) then bring it in.
If people don't like the idea of giving things to the raffle/auction bin, then we can have a thing like everybody that put something in gets $2 or something, thereby not taking too much out of club profits but still satisfying everyone.
Idea 3 Rob a train
Muh?

lol there is always the high school way to go and sell candy or something lol.
I like the auction thing, would there be any return to the person who is auctioning the item? Cause if I auction a figure I want something back from it.

I personally think that tournaments will be the best bet for fundraising. If we start planning now for one it might be ready by winter break or shortly after.
Like Matt said we need to start planning anything soon as we also have games day tables to start constructing.

I think the tournament idea is pretty good. The auctioneer idea is all right, but unless your an avid collector of models it's going to be pretty specific.
Also, what do we need money for? Terrain and such?
EDIT: I'm also totally up for all the members just ponying up ~20.00 and getting all the money we need in one swift motion.

Money is for such things as Gamesday, food, flyers, possibly parking, etc.

auction would be cool, but then again we would have to make new flyers for that. tournament would be best as GW players are always up for stiff competition.

Yeah I think the tournament idea is a great one. Do you think Onboard Games would let us use their place to host it?

Undoubtably. The more people in a new store the better, at least to a businessman's pov.

it would work great at on board to hold the tournament there bc say someone was impressed at what warp spiders could do (for instance), then they would be more inclined to go upstairs and buy the box. and it's just an overall easier landmark to have it at instead of like holmes student center room 505 bc people would be turned off to go since they couldnt find the crikey room.
i would only go with idea 4 but that would have to be an NIU freshman or someone from the SA. the other two wouldn't work.

Well the problem with having a tourny there is:
1) we will be making money so we would have to ask permission(they probably wont care but somthing we should consider)
2) If we have a tourny there max people is 12 and have to be smaller games(1500 for 40k and 2,000 for fantasy) With the holmes in the room we are normally in we can have way more than that not sure but i know we can have more....
I like the tourny idea alot i would probably be in it for the hell of it.

It looks like plenty of people are interested, so what do we need to do to get things rolling?

First we would have to start advertising and getting a room ( i was thinking regency in the HSC.). Then we would have to make sure that we have nice enough terrain for all the tables(this is a problem as we have limited terrain). Those are just the first steps...and actually advertising comes after room reservation and terrain making/buying/getting.

Those are just the first steps...and actually advertising comes after room reservation and terrain making/buying/getting. We could all pony up 20 bucks or something to purchase the necessary terrain and then just label it as belonging to the club (under the control and responsibility of one of the executive officers). Then we could begin advertising?

apparently so. it seems a lot harder to organize than i thought it to be, but if GW is basically paying for everything, that helps out a lot.

GW isnt paying for anything because then we would have to have it a GW store. Also anything held in a GW store is a drive for almost everyone in the club and that is no fun for those of us who will be running the tourney so it will more than likely be in Dekalb. GW will have no part in it. So everything is on us as a group to provide.
