Well, we have a 40k tournament in the spring to run. It will be our major fundraiser of the semester, and we hope to do more later. As it is, here are the details so far:
April 21 1750pts 3 rounds
Good missions, 20 people. What we need are prize ideas. We want a couple for the hardcore players: 1st and 2nd. We're thinking something generic and very attractive, such as a figure transport or big book like Imperial Armor. That will be the main draw.
Secondly, we would like a couple prizes for people that probalby won't play well, like new people, or people that like to paint more than play. These could be things like new dice or something. As it is, here are my ideas:
1st: Transport case _or_ the book "The Art of Warhammer 40,000" 2nd: Hero Basing Kit 3rd: Best Painted (Pride in Your Colors):
First person to score a 6 on penetrating chart (Marksman Award):
Worst Record [/b](Blame the Dice): New set of dice, like a Chessex thing or something (taken care of)
If you can think of different prize ideas (and conditions for getting them) let us know.

Dice like I said is already taken care. Courtesy of Advancing Hordes.com .....so bam mark one off the list.
The only one I have a problem with is the Marksman award because it is easier for some armies compared to armies to do that and also it just seems like something that is common...I say instead of that we just have a 3rd place and keep the painting and worst record one.

Is the Armored Company List useable in this tournament?

Rios has all the information we've figured out about it, so he should be bothered for questions.
Here is what is allowed or not:
- All special characters in the CURRENT editions of all codices are allowed. - No VDR - Forgeworld is allowed, with the following restrictions: -- no Superheavies or Gargantuan Creatures are allowed - Standard FOC is used with the following changes: -- everyone gets 2 Heavy Support and 4 Fast Attack instead of normal
Missions are: 1st - Patrol 2nd - Recon (Gamma) 3rd - Hold at All Costs
Insofar as Armored Company, we hadn't thought about it. I'll put my vote on "allowed" though, because I'd like to see yours. The best thing is that it wouldn't be really restricted much by the FOC changes above.

vdr?
maybe the prizes can just be different amounts of gift certificates so people have the choice of what they want.
rules are good so no cheap-o players with 3 superheavies.
a loser award can be someone who was beaten with a victorious slaughter.

Ok guys, I posted the Tournament up on AWC and applied to make it a TT event. here's the link if you want to see what I put up, I hope you don't mind the flavor text: www.adeptuswindycity.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=16597042I threw out the Vehicle Case as firt place 'cause I feel it's a good idea. I also talked with Ian about it so if E-board has any concerns you can talk to him or me. I can make any changes you want, I just wanted to get something up there. It should show up on the calendar for AWC soon. PS. I really enjoy the 'Death or Glory' award, but if it doesn't rub you right I'll take it off. (I'll support that one with something) -DUDE

Very importantly, change the wording on most pristine. It will be judged by event runners, not players this time.

well i have not see what you guys discussed: but so far the prizes go as such, I believe: 1st place: Army transport 2nd Place: TBA 3rd Place: ?? Best Painted: Woodland scenics free gift and maybe something else depending on what woodland scenics sends me. The Universe Hates me (worst record?): Dice from Advancing Hordes.com (20 Dice a 25$ value) Death or glory: I have no idea what this is...but sounds cool so far is this right... Also, thank you John for posting that on AWC.

Sorry about any confusion, I just wanted to start getting the word out.. I changed the wording on the most pristine award.
You guys can figure out what you want to do about 2nd and 4rd place prizes. I'd like to the E-board to see me about that too cause I have some input.
You are correct about the 'universe hates me' award. Speaking with Ian we felt that letting people know the worst record would get a prize might encourange some to throw the 3rd game.
The Death or Glory award is a personal favorite of mine. Like it reads, the first person to destroy a tank in a death or glory attemp or the tank that has run over the most people at teh end of the day gets this. If you guys don't want it I'll take it off.
I don't think you'll have any problems fill my 20-person max. I already have two people that signed up via AWC and I have 3-4 from the store that are gonna sign up, plus me (yes, I want to participate in a freaking tournament!)
Also, this is gonna be a Tournament Trackers event, which should draw more people too. Being that there are a few rules that we have to follow, but again I'll go over that with the E-board.
I think this'll be a good event guys, and should help the club out!

What prize do we want for Death or Glory? If nobody gets it (like last time), then will it be resorbed into the store, or what.
Looking good so far otherwise.
We will have...3-4 staff from the club running the event. 1 for taking monies, 2 for rules questions/judgement calls during games, and then all will do the paint-job judging. So far me, Josh, and someone else.
As for the extra thought you put on the windycity dealy, about bringing the super forgeworld stuff anyway to win best painted...why? It's not part of the army that's being judged. Just thoughting.

I could take out the forgeworld part if you want. I just thought that people like to show off what they've got, and giving them an outlet to do so might be nice, I dunno.
I'll supply the death or glory prize. And actually someone did take it in the last tourney, it was Curt (plays sisters).
One other thing, I put on there that buying $25 worth of stuff will get someone into the event as well. I'm sure you could guess but I'll just pass the $10 onto you guys for everyone that does this. Allowing people to buy their way in ussually makes me some money.

Well Andrew count me in for working the event.
Also i think 1st and 2nd should be tangable prizes but we can make 3rd and some of the others store credit.
Like john said we should not make the worst record prize a known prize till after the tournament people might throw matches to win this.
I like the death or glory prize.
So far for prizes we have 1st, worst luck, best painted.
So we need to fill prizes for 2nd 3rd and death or glory.
Well we(the exec board) should decide on this soon so if no one else has any ideas we better discuss this soon and make a decesion so we can start advertising this.

One other thought I had. You should have one person on stand-by in case we have an odd number of people show up for the event. It would be nice to have a player ready so people won't have a by-round. This prolly won't be shooting for 1st place, but should be able to give the person a good run-through.

I am the treasurer so taking money falls under me yos. As well I am execboard and would like to fill my duties lol.
I like the ideas thus far.
But I do agree with the throwing the last game thing, however, you have to think is a new set of dice a good incentive to throw the game? Unless they are hella cool/nice dice.
3rd place could be a single character of choice within a certain amount? Or maybe two or three paints of their choice? Or maybe that should have something to do with best painted...I dunno, but either way for 40K those are mostly the only options left lol...or maybe the how to paint miniatures book...or the art book was a good idea.

Well i just got the prize support from Woodland Scenics which i figured would be used for best painted. It is two 33" X 50" vinyl ready made grass mats...these things are actually pretty nice and would be useful for people making their own tables so it kinda fits the best painting scheme thing. Prize value=20$

ok so for working the event it looks like it will be:
Andrew and Ian & Josh and Delso
I think thats it for volunteers for running it. We could use someone to be an alternative. So if you have a painted army and are free that day let us know and if we are short a player you will play for free ( sorry cant win the prizes ).
