The game was an 1850 cleanse. My brave Ultramarines against the insidious followers of the Chaos god Khorne!
The armies:
Him:
Daemon Prince from hell ('nuff said)
Bloodthirster
5 Chosen Terminators - combi-melta, reaper autocannon, 2 lightning claws, 2 powerfists
8 Berzerkers - Champion w/powerfist
8 Berzerkers - Champion w/powerfist
10 Berzerkers - Champion
8 Bloodletters
5 Chaos bikers - mark of khorne
8 Flesh hounds
Me:
Master - stormbotler, power sword
Master of Sanctity - the usual + jump pack
Dreadnought Ferox - assault cannon, heavy flamer
Dreadnought Ignatius - twin-linked heavy bolter, stormbolter (it's great to have IA2 and lotsa bits )
10 Tactical Marines (1) - plasma gun, plasma cannon, veteran w/plasma pistol
10 Tactical Marines (2) - flamer, missile launcher, veteran w/powerfist
10 Tactical Marines (3) - plasma gun, lascannon, veteran w/powerfist, deathwatch w/m .40 targetter and silenced shells
10 Tactical Marines (4) - meltagun, veteran w/powerfist and combi-melta
Rhino - stormbolter, extra armor, smoke launchers
10 Assault Marines - 2 plasma pistols, veteran w/thunderhammer, combat shield
Landspeeder Tornado - heavy bolter, assault cannon
5 Devastators - 2 missile launchers, 2 lascannons
I basically drew up my forces in a line like so:
While he deployed against me, mostly in cover. 40 Marines shielding the devastators, with a dreadnought and fast attack unit to anchor each end of the line. Everything went to plan. The dreadnoughts and speeder ranged out to delay the enemy's approach, while the assault squad with accompanying chaplain took a quarter. The Daemon Prince fell in the second turn to the combined firepower of a tactical squad, dreadnought, landspeeder, and the devastators. Then Ferox engaged the bikers in brutal hand to servo-fist, crushing all in the ensuing combat.
When the summoned flesh hounds assault those marines, they held with only one casualty, causing three in return. Their instability test (boxcars, sweeeet!) resulted in the entire group of daemons to dissipate. They then, due to the chaplains fierece oratory, they charged the bloodthirster, which already had taken some wounds from the disciplined fire of nearly the entire army. The greater daemon of Khorne lashed out and eviscerated three marines with a single swing of its axe. However, when the daemon was distracted with those in front of it, another jumped up high. Like an angel of death falling on wings of fire, it dropped blade first onto its head, the chainsaw ripping through it and tearing out chunks of gore. Two huge daemons down, five little ones to go...
Tactical Squad 4 closed to rapid fire range of the bloodletters and opened up. Three vanished in a haze of explosive bolts and torching melta beams. Many marines died that day, and it was left to the remained two, the sergeant and his meltagun wielder to take out the last one.
The daemon hacked off the meltagunner's arm in its frenzy, turned to the sergeant and caught a powerfist in the chops. Thus the chaos incursion was entirely eradicated.
Pictures were taken by me and my trusty camera phone, as we had no other cameras at the time
The VP totals, since i had wiped him out and captured two quarters, including his starter, were him: 640 and me: 3237.5. He's a great guy to play against, even though he takes such sound thrashings. He learns and adapts, but I do the same. We shall see how our next match turns out!
