I want to gauge how many people would want to play in a one-day-only campaign. It will be 35pt armies again, no two of the same caster/character can be on the board at the same time, INCLUDING epic versions (I'll explain this in a second). I have a story written up for this. It's a little less formal, a little more "for the sake of playing" and less about winning. It will function as follows:
I have a storyline for a multi-part campaign that everyone plays in. This campaign will be evolving the storyline based on the outcomes of...get ready for it...a series of apoc-sized battles. That's right. I felt like everyone was having so much fun with that final, battle royale we had for last campaign, that it'd be a great jumping off point for something more loose and casual.
It allows people to show up and play if they'd like, or be absent if they have to. Either way, the campaign flows along smoothly. I haven't decided how many parts the story will be broken into, but let me preview it by saying you will experience every type of terrain the game can muster. There will be a lot of scenario-driven parts to the game. Again, the board we play on will reflect what's happening on the real map.
List size will vary, as will composition. Different casters can be brought at your discretion. There will be no reinforcement points. Each part of these campaigns adds together to equal a whole story that we're writing by playing. After everything is said and done, I will do my best to compile the results and turn them into some recreational writing. New lists can be made, involving new casters at the onset of each new part. The battle lines will be the prime goal of all the factions, so supplies are at the caster's beck and call, thus no need for reinforcement. I'd like to point out that this time, we should probably do WYSIWYG. No proxying. It got really difficult to keep track of what was what with everyone. Considering most people have the majority of their armies now, it just makes sense.
Here's how the basic setup works: We will have Khador on one side, Cygnar on the other. Seeing as Thornwood is hotly contested by both factions, this makes the most sense. Additionally, Khador and Cygnar comprise the greatest percentage of the players we have available. Here's how the other factions fall into place...
Cryx has their own agenda. They have heard stories of arcane treasures beyond the scope of their imaginations. They side with who they feel they can bend to their will, playing nice at first, of course...(simply, they pick a team and play as non-imposing allies).
Menoth sides with who they feel can best instill the menite ideals in the young, impressionable soils of The Thornwood and its people.
Mercs play for the side with the best promise of coin and fame.
Circle plays for the faction they feel aligns with their ultimate plans of unifying the Thornwood tribes and becoming sovereign once again.
Trolls play for those who will make the most of the glories of battle.
Legion comes for death. They pick a side, but no one knows their agenda.
Skorne likely side with Khador, because of their hatred for Cygnar and it's eastern borders. Stranger things have happened, however...
To sum it up. We're going to divide the players up onto as even teams as we can make. If the teams are uneven or one side has 5 players and the other has 3, 2 people from the 3-man team can field an additional caster as well as an additional 35pt list. We will divide it up as evenly as possible, but this may be a scenario we are confronted with.
Games is as follows. 2-3 48"x48" tables will be connected (remove the dividers) and a pitched battle will take place. One side lines up against the other and the winning side decides how the campaign evolves. I am leaving this a secret, so we can't plan ahead. I will, however, give a small riddle before every part of this campaign, as it approaches, to give you a loose idea of what the scenario/objective will be and what kind of terrain you might be seeing. Each one of these parts is a mini-campaign that will make up a whole, larger campaign. We can do these whenever people are available. It seems like people have been very interested in playing Saturdays. Most likely, we will do this on a Saturday when the store opens and take it into the early evening. With that, I need to know who is in for this and when you'd like to start it. The sooner the better.
Guidelines:
-Game will be 4v4 or 5v5.
-Game turns will last 10 minutes for Cygnar, Khador, Cygnar allies and Khador allies.
-First turn is decided by a die roll. 1 roll for each side. Each side then decides whether the main faction or the allies go first.
-Game will last 4-6 turns.
-No redundant casters or characters can be on the field at the same time. Choose wisely.
-WYSIWYG is in effect. No proxies. It keeps things clear and simple.
-35pt lists. Can be anything you want, epic or prime casters.
-Team who fulfills the objectives most thoroughly wins.
I now present...
Awaken Thornwood: Part 1, The Road Less Travelled.
Rhupert Carvolo, Piper of Ord, AR 607. A casual observer:
It was no surprise to me, the way the men let dark, earthy hues settle on their plate as they stood, days of marching behind them, gazing across the road at one another. The familiar dirge of a warcaster crying out from the rear ranks, illuminating halos at the feet of every man, tempered them for what was to come. It was on this day that I, Mr. Carvolo, your narrator, witnessed the most god-awful bloodshed a man could ever hope not to see. This was no ordinary battle. Peculiar alliances took shape before my very eyes and chilled the fluid coursing my veins. Never have I heard or seen the forces of the Menites allying with foreign steel. Astounded, I was, to see Elves fighting amongst men and bone jacks running alongside a human conscript, as though it were doing it on purpose. This was pure war; a battle that would quake the very foundation of history. Many times, as merely a spectator, I escaped with my life dangling by a thread . In pure war, you see, a singular life is a wafer floating in the furious stew of battle. Often, that wafer becomes saturated and sinks, becoming a component of the stew. Let it be known, this battle, the first in a series of history lessons we can teach cherubs in awe, was newly laid cobblestone; a trail no one had seen before and won't soon forget. This was war in The Thornwood, a story the old stumps could tell the new saplings in some years, of men standing next to Trollkin and Iosians, dwarves and automaton. This was what I observed the day of the road less travelled.
