Me and a couple other guys are going to start trying to play Mechwarrior regularly on Tuesday evening/nights. Three of us played tonight and it was great. The two other guys are Andy and Peter, who in turn have two more friends who play but couldn't make it.
So, if anyone else wants to join us on these nights you're more than welcome to come and learn or play since you know how.

I have played that game for the past 4 years or so, even went to the nationals for it. My stuff is at home, but if i can get it up here I'd be interested in playing fun games.

Well I'm looking for a miniatures game that doesn't involve painting (which may be blasphemy to some), and I've been interested in the universe ever since I played Battletech when I was younger. If there is interest I'll start collecting.

Hunting around it looks like the starter set goes for about $30, and booster packs appear to be priced similarly to CCG boosters (i.e. $10-$15 each)

Most of the older boosters came with one mech, one vehicle, and two infantry. Newer ones I think have two mechs, one vehicle, and two infantry.

it used to be 450 points but got bumped up to 600 because the average cost of units rose. Especially when they added gear and pilots into the mix. It's a 50 minute battle, of which there's 3 victory conditions, and played on a 3X3 table. I've tried to play on the 4X4's we have here, but you don't really get the feel of how the normal game is on the bigger table.

Both sizes work fine with me. Sometimes I like the breathing room, sometimes it's a liability.

After playing for so long competitively, I found it hard to deviate from the rules and play fun games. I'm finding it hard to explain the way I mean.....how the time limit and map size are the two main parameters for the game.
