I have an extensive project that I've been doing mainly on tuesday nights and thursday afternoons, so those aren't so good for me currently. My stuff is at home, so until I get some of my stuff, I won't be playing. John has some pieces here, but it's mostly outdated and wouldn't give a good scope of the game.

There is one other matter: from what I can gather online Wizkids has discontinued this product line, which obviously means no more new things. I have also heard rumors that the company itself is in delcine.

well that's a bummer; hope privateer press doesn't sink. their minis are beautiful, just HORRIBLY over-priced.

I can confirm that Wizkids has suspended the MW product line, and focusing solely on Heroclix, Star Wars Pocket Minis, and Pirates of the Cursed Sea. As far as I can gather most if not all of the MW team is no longer at Wizkids, so the odds of the series coming back are rather low IMO. The rights to the original Battletech were sold to Catalyst Game Labs, which has now produced Classic Battletech. Having played CBT waayy back when it was owned by FASA, I can say that it is much more detailed and complex than MW appears to be. However, it does have the benefit of being actively produced.

maybe there was a typo in that comment because you seemed to imply by your last comment of "however' that it hast he benefit of being in production... even though you said it's more complex and in depth than MW . How's battletech looking then lol?

I meant to say that they are continuing to produce new CBT products, as opposed to MW which has no more new stuff. CBT, however, takes longer to play and is more involved than MW.

I'm having A LOT of trouble finding decent pics of the actual minis, but the few I've found have left me feeling.... lack-luster at best.

MW minis or CBT minis? As far as CBT goes the impression I got was that the hobby aspect of the game is not nearly as important to it as it is to a game like 40k. I could be mistaken though.

No you're right. Mech minis are non-negotiable, excepting omni-mechs from CBT. Suck it up, kids. Play an awesome game!

While the minis for mech-warrior aren't exactly "wow" factor (this actually makes me really, really appreciate some of the models offered by GW and PP) and PRE-PAINTED GAAAAHHGGHG They're relatively cheap with the discount John is offering at OBG and figure it's another game I could get into and also get another member to show up with someone to play with. But with that said... dude I'll paint your minis for you if you're that averse to it lol. I dare you not to feel attatched to your minis after you've slaved hours working to model them up or paint em'. you'll never know unless you try.

i got the last starter box, so if you're up for some demo testing this saturday afternoon i'd be cool with that. what times are good for you? i'm free anytime after noon. Also, since the starter comes with two armies, we could play test both and see which of the two we each like more. if we like different ones, we can just swap half for half to make 2 bigger armies

Just to let everyone know this game is EXTREMELY cheap to get into. Everything at the store is 30% off, and the online can be as low as $3 per booster.

Agreed; This game would also seem to lend itself more easily to multi-player matches than 40K does. The turns here, if you know the rules, last about oh 1 minute each where as in 40k in a decent sized multi-player game you're forced to stand there rolling armor saves for 10-15 minutes sometimes . Also, over-heating mechs are very funny.

we didn't even use those in our first game so no biggy ^_^. Btw since i'm Kinda limited to what John has in the shop, should i spend the $20 (roughly $15 with the discount) on the 8 light mech set, 4 heavy mech set, 6 medium mech set or just get 3 generic booster sets?
Also, are we going to do mech warrior tuesdays or a different day of the week?

Well I believe the mech sets come with only mechs, while the booster sets come with 1 mech, 1 vehicle and 2 infantry, plus various CECs. So if you want a more balanced force I'd say go with the boosters, but if you're just looking to get the most models possible the Solaris sets seem to be the better choice.

I playtested nearly all of those mechs in those sets, and my opinion is that they're pretty terrible. I'd just buy boosters as you need the other units anyways for regular, non-Solaris VII games.
