Talk about the fastest way to get me to buy an army. 20 dice! I love it!

I'm not too sure on the validity of that weapon; sure it's the same as a squad of rapid firing Fire Warriors (without AP5), but nothing else in 40k is like that. The rumors probably got the number wrong.
Ironically, even if it's true, that weapon system is going to cost a lot of points and all it takes is a glancing hit to render it unable to shoot or blow up.

It's all translated from Spanish, so some things may be off...

I saw this last night. I believe this to be genuine because the snap shot of the article that goes along with it refers to other miniature relases and this model just looks slightly, well, off, when compared to the Forge World one. The Forge World one just appears to have slightly cleaner lines and is a bit more recessed in areas. This one just kinda looks like Plastic, I'm not sure how to explain it (maybe it's the lighting?).
It's certainy larger, with the wingspan, than the Land Raider. I wonder how many bits come with the thing?

It looks like poor quality because the picture is poor quality. It is just fine with smooth clean lines, etc.

Ironically, even if it's true, that weapon system is going to cost a lot of points and all it takes is a glancing hit to render it unable to shoot or blow up. If the rumor holds true and you can purchase 1-3 tanks as a single heavy choice, that is nine of these babies in an army. That is potential 180 dice in a single round of shooting. Who cares about tactics, its just fun knowing that you get to roll so many dice!

'Bout time I posted something here, straight from warseer. www.warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=52399&d=1234488233The Leman Russ right of the Shadowsword is supposedly the Punisher variant, the suposedly 20 shot tank. If that is true, it doesn't look like there will be a new turret, just new guns to put in the old turret. It could just be an conversion, but that would mean somebody custom built the cannon, its not just a transplanted thunderfire or hellfire(whatever the fantasy multi-cannon's name is) cannon. There does seam to be some debate over whether this is just an expert conversion or if it is the actual new tank, if it is the new tank, well I'm not holding out for any dramatic changes for the Russ or any of the other guard tanks, at least in regards to the core sprues . Discuss.

Either the Russ and Chimera get decent Turrets or if/when I start Imperial Guard I'm just loading up on as Many Valkryies as I can get my hands on as my sole armored support.
I saw that last night too and I wasn't impressed; conversion or otherwise.

Andrew - I am getting the itch as well for a small IG force. Any interest in doing a joint project for Adepticon 2010? I want to build a tank heavy cadian force, but don't want to build more than a 1000 points, so if interested, drop me a PM.

Looks like I have been beat to posting all those shiny pictures . However, I just want to point out a few models and add some extra links. There are pictures of the Lord Commissar, some demonstrations what can be achieved with the new Cadian and Catachan HQ box sets, also pictures of units such as astropaths (+1 to your reserve rolls) and fleet officers (-1 to your opponent's reserve rolls) and also the plastic Valkyrie, finally a rear shot that confirms that it is truly a new model (different exit doors) and some shots of the sprues. Notably, we have new pictures of ratlings (new link i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh141/Syph0/Warhammer%20World/Design%20Studio%20Open%20Day/DSCF8355.jpg ) which in my opinion look like Rambo crossed with a leprechaun. We also again see the rumored to be Punisher (alternative link warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=52596&d=1234717510 ) which seems to confirm that there will be little change in the Russ other than a new sprue with different guns. There does seem to be new weapons for the sentinel, plasma cannon and missile launcher. Here are some close ups of the new Cadian and Catachan HQ squads: 3.bp.blogspot.com/_4nzgPbHlNo4/SZhdLjTuwII/AAAAAAAAEEE/torrPSyUWBI/s1600-h/IG-cmd-03.jpg4.bp.blogspot.com/_4nzgPbHlNo4/SZhdLntv8ZI/AAAAAAAAEEM/ACcsaDCWnpg/s1600-h/IG-cmd-02.jpg4.bp.blogspot.com/_4nzgPbHlNo4/SZhdLnqv7tI/AAAAAAAAEEU/EdeOpOWwXf8/s1600-h/IG-cmd-01.jpg3.bp.blogspot.com/_4nzgPbHlNo4/SZhdL44VU6I/AAAAAAAAEEk/5iVFDjX07ZI/s1600-h/cadian-cmd-01.jpg2.bp.blogspot.com/_4nzgPbHlNo4/SZhdXIrzZUI/AAAAAAAAEE0/yStXUn6NDQ8/s1600-h/IG-cmd-05.jpgi255.photobucket.com/albums/hh141/Syph0/Warhammer%20World/Design%20Studio%20Open%20Day/DSCF8371.jpgand a better link to the pages that show what comes in the boxes: www.40konline.com/community/index.php?topic=162954.60 about halfway down the page Heres another couple of pictures of the Valkyries, including one that looks to be better armed than the rest. i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh141/Syph0/Warhammer%20World/Design%20Studio%20Open%20Day/DSCF8378.jpgi255.photobucket.com/albums/hh141/Syph0/Warhammer%20World/Design%20Studio%20Open%20Day/DSCF8379.jpgThats pretty much all I have to add, things are looking up for the Guard Infantry, but until I see some pictures of these new rumored tanks and some more solid rules behind them, I am going to avoid sounding too enthusiastic about the new Codex, I do play Guard for the tanks after all ;D. I still can't wait to see more of the command squad options and I might just have to get one of those new sentinals .

The tanks are more or less confirmed now as to be part of a second wave release that is TBD as far as release date goes.
I really like the space hobbits.
I'm disappointed that all of the tank re-cuts are not coming out, however, I'm very happy with the changes that are nearly confirmed at this point as to the content of the codex's rule changes. I can start a Imperial Guard army now (maybe even in time for a BFG summer thing?) and simply use Pig Iron Infantry supplemented with Command Squads and focus on having stuff like Sentinels and Valkyries.
After all, Carl likes his tanks. I want my gunships of doom. The plastics are frickin' sweet and look just like the Forge World version. It's one of those things where you're tempted to start an army for that one model or two; before it was Tyranids for the Hive Tyrant and Carnifex. Now Imperial Guard for the Valkyrie and simple, but effective command squad and character models.
I'm disappointed, however, that it's seeming more likely that the new re-cut of the Imperial Guardsmen sprues will simply be assault weapons like there currently are and no plastic special weapons. Another reason to go Pig Iron I suppose.

Those command squads are bitchin' indeed. Didja see the heavy flamers in both sets? #22 for Catachans and #14 for Cadians.
Tom, all of the special weapons are in those command boxes...IN PLASTIC. I'll at least get two or three Cadian ones, simply for the bits...

With the release of the new codex, IG is pretty much all plastic with the exception of the odd HQ choice and storm troopers. I think this helps go along ways towards making them a much more viable choice for players.
I am finding it humorous that the "18 month" comment is being taken alot of different ways by people and that the rumors are starting to heat up.
Like alot of folks, I am tempted by the IG, though eldar are winning my blog. I am thinking that if I do IG, I am looking at this kind of 1000 point list.
HQ Command = advisors (like the new models), heavy bolter support. Elite = Inquisitor w/ henchman (witchhunters) & rhino Troops = Guardsman in chimera (all flamers) Fast Attack = Hellhounds Heavy = Leman Russ Punishers (29 dice of heavy bolters per tank)
Must have: bolters, flamers, melta, power weapons, standards, helmets, sleeves. Must not: lascannons, plasma, power fists, halflings, tanktops, missiles, big ordinance weapons, or walkers.
Basically I want to do my IG like an urban cleansing force. If I work on them as part of a team, I figure other guys will want to do the big, loud stuff.

I know the special weapons are in the HQ squad, but isn't that $25 for 5 guys? I know the current one is like $35, but still... The problem lies in the fact that GW is simply increasing the price of Imperial Guardsmen. It was ok with Orks because they got a re-cut sprue such that you actually get 11 guys (I believe) with the nob model and other bits thrown on. The new Imperial Guard box is imply going to be 10 Guardsmen, simply re-packaged from the current box and cost the same as the current Ork troop box. Seriously Lame... Pig Iron is cheaper . I'll probably only get the HQ boxes to take up the obligatory HQ squad and command squads so they at least look the part with the proper weapons. However, If I want more special weapons, I'll just buy them cause Pig Iron sells their tweaked versions of Meltaguns, flamers, machine guns, missile launchers, etc...

It'll probably be $22, like so many other things. And there are so many things in there it will be great. Plastic heavy flamers for my Ultramarines squads, huzzah!

Ok, I know this is in French, but it looks fairly official and confirms many of the rumors that I have seen. This is the full reference sheet for the Imperial Guard 5th Edition Codex as taken from the French Games Workshop site, then uploaded onto Warseer. www.warseer.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=52957&d=1235043107It appears to return many long lost Guard special characters , Valhallan and Tallarn got their senior officers back and the Catachans got their two supercharacters back in addition to Nork Ledog (Ogryn Bodyguard), and there are some new characters that I have no clue what they are for (I hope at least one of them is a new tank commander ;D ). It seems to confirm the Punisher being 20 shots of strength 5 ap nil death. For someone who knows French this would be a goldmine, for everyone else, well I guess it is time to start drawing as many conclusions as we can. It does look fairly good to me so far, however, I would really like to know what that note at the bottom says . EDIT: It says "These weapons follow special rules, to see their description." Oh well, was hoping for something more important, I still want to know if the Vanquisher will be able to fire normal ordnance. The Hydra does appear to be in the list surprisingly .
