Hello there everyone, I'm John. I'm a transfer student at NIU, this is my first year here but I transferred in as a junior. I'm a computer science major. I've been playing WH40k for 5(ish?) years after my brother got me interested in it. I play Tyranids (and NO, I'm NOT a bandwagon player that's playing 'nids just because they're new - I've been playing 'nids for the time that I've been involved with 40k ) I am a little out of practice, as I wasn't nearly as involved with miniatures gaming as I would have liked at my previous school. I intend to get more involved as I really enjoy all aspects of the hobby - painting, playing, terrain building, etc. Anyway, that's all for now, off to class!

Hi, My name is Erik and I came across this board while googleing for a 40k gaming location near NIU. I just moved into an apartment across from NIU and wasn't relishing driving 20+ miles to Geneva to play a game. My armies include, in the order of acquiring: Necrons (don't really have anymore), Tau (maybe 2.5k-3k?), Nids (3k-3.5k?), CSM (1 squad), Eldar (2k+, mostly run proxying though), and Dark Eldar (have the codex). I use to be big into wysiwyg, but that was back when I first got Tau, Now I play fine to proxy, as long as one thing represents 1 thing only. Always up for a game, although I have no table or terrain.

Nice to meet ya. We meet every Thursday Night at New Game in Town at 811 W. Lincoln Highway (next to McDonald's) usually round 5 pm or so. Other then that you can always arrange a game here on the boards.

Hi all, names Jay. Finishing up my B.S. in Criminal Justice in May next yr. I'm from the Kankakee area and I'm basically new to wargaming. I've played a few Napoleonic area wargames and I liked them a lot. That is were most of my interest is. I've wanted to start playing Warhammer, but don't know much about it really. I was going to look into starting an imperial guard army, but not really sure. Well, I think thats basically it about me.

Welcome Jay. If you are around Kankakee we have some members that meet up around that area also. In peotone to be exact.
Are you into historicals, fantasy, or sci-fi?

I'm probably more into historical game play than anything else, but that is probably because I'm not familiar with with the fantasy style games. Though I am finding that Warhammer seems pretty interesting and I might try and get into that some. Would that group in Peotone be the ones that meet up at Dragons Refuge (if I got the name right)?

Hey I'll be at the shop (Dragon's Refuge) Saturday probably between 2-3pm. Randy (Relando on the boards) will be up as well. We will probably get a game of 40k going. I know randy has IG and demons I'm also going to see if a buddy of mine will come down he has dark eldar. I'm Sean by the way.

It is not the same group...we do play at Dragons refuge sometimes...but the majority of us play at my house which is like two blocks from the refuge.

Our group down here (whats known as the Frankfort Chapter)...plays mostly warhammer fantasy. We have a few people who play 40K, a couple of people who play warmachine/Hordes (steampunk). We also play Mordheim on a regular basis (smaller games of warhammer basically but with a slight RPG feel to it) and a few other various games.
I think myself and one other person may be interested in historicals down here. I have roughly about 1000pts of romans (using the Warhammer Ancient Battles ruleset).
Up in the Dekalb/Northern area the emphasis is definitely 40K and Warmachine/Hordes. With a few fantasy playes and a handful of other games.
Both chapters hold tournaments (if you are interested in semi-competitive play). Dekalb has more as they have a larger group up there. Otherwise both groups have a lot of fun players.

cool, I wish I had soldiers along the lines of the Roman era. I only have Napoleonic British Inf and such at the moment. It would be cool, to get some Greek inf to go up against the Romans (Spartans with their Hoplites perhaps). I met 2 others on here that play historicals, but I still have yet to play a game with them yet since I'm new to the sight. Might actually find a fairly decent group of ppl that play Historical. Crazy part is I want to get into a lot of different games(40k, warhammer, napoleonic, etc) and that means a shiz load of painting.

Keep your eyes open on the boards for events down here. Another good place to sign up is on facebook the group has a page on there. I try to to put as many events up as possible on there also. The next time we host something down here (an organized meeting) I will let you know.
If you are interesed in painting definitely check out the modeling, painting, and scenery tips section. Lots of stuff on there might give you some ideas and inspiration.

hey Sean,
The few times that I have played they have been 15mm and my British are all 15mm too.
Link,
I'll have to check out those sections you mentioned. I'm thinking of building my own gaming table and the terrain tips should be helpful with that along with the painting section.

If you know anyone residing their house it would be a good idea to ask for the insulation. My neighbor is residing his house and i'll get what ever he doesn't use. The stuff is durable and easy to work with. Just do not use spray paint on it, unless it has the tacky scenic cement on it (looks like chalky plaster.

Hey all, I figured I should post my 2 cents in here, as I will hopefully be around more and get to know some of you. My name's Kitt, and I play 40K (Space Wolves and Orks) WFB (Dwarfs and Wood Elves) and getting into Malifaux and Warmachine (Cygnar). I've been into miniatures on and off for over 15 years now, and am always looking for any other players who know some old classics as well, specifically WarZone, back when Target Games owned it. I still have nearly 1500 points in Bauhaus that would love to see some field time!
